Not for a SP but for a Brooks Pro seat, the green version model.
Was on a $150 heavy steel bike and the saddle is in mint condition.
Seller bought saddle for the Hotter Than Hell HTH TX century.
I replaced the saddle and flipped the bike for the same price

What a great thread. I don’t think I’ve bought a whole bike for a single part, but I’ve bought a whole mess of frames and parts for a single item. Got my Trek 630 frame for the price it was worth. It just happened to come with a Centurion Accordo, Modolo levers, a Campy Athena crankset and bb, and a set of mint 7700 DA/Open Pro wheels thrown in.

Not a seatpost, I think. I have bought bike for a saddle (Cinelli Volare) and cranks (Caramba Double Barrels).

It was a really weird bike. It was a low-end Peugeot with the upgraded seat and wheels. I actually picked it up in a nice neighborhood.

I just love a story with a happy ending! Of course, the Battaglin might have come with a nifty stem of its own, and now you have to set out to find a perfect bike for that stem. A C&Ver's work is never done!

Just finished the seat post. I thought I should wrap this thread up with a final picture. I thought I had it done last week, then I saw the seat post that @cinelliguy had on his Colnago that had also been shaped. So I did some more work on it after the group ride yesterday.

That is super nice. Like you said, you didn't want to impact the Campagnolo script and you skillfully did just that. Very classy, and when you reinstall with the saddle some finished up images would be great!

I went with black for the decals on the frame so I stayed with he black on the pantograph. I was torn on staying more classic with the blue for the decals, but I really liked the look of the black with the Celeste, so black it is.

...for a seat post and stem. A $25 Robin Hood step-thru with better chrome than my rescued Raleigh Sports. I was going to use the wheels as well, but the ones on the Raleigh cleaned up ok and I'd rather keep it original. I've since harvested other parts down to the fasteners and fender stays. The bare frame, forks and fenders are in the bin.

Not a seatpost, but I had been looking for a 7410 175mm crankset for a few months. This Cannondale showed up in my local classifieds, equipped with the chainset I'd been after. Price was good so I bought it.

Too nice to part out, and the frame was my size, I found a 7700 crankset to replace the other one.

Here's a seapost/saddle I got a couple of years ago.
It has the most interesting micro adjust system integrated into it.
Could not find any information on it anywhere, so I figure, it might have been a one-off prototype from San Marco that maybe never made it into volume production.
I would have bought it if it had to come with any bike under it because it's just so cool!

Keep looking, as I still find stuff. Whenever anyone asks where I find parts, I tell them "they come in the form of a complete bike." For those seeking french sized parts, I continue to recommend Motobecanes. Not only did they come with nice Japanese parts in french sizing, they also often had swiss bottom brackets, good Suntour derailleurs, and so on. Vx GT RD, Suntour barcons, SR Forged stem, swiss BB, tourney crankset, nice Suntour freewheel. Had to buy this one to secure the Mikkelsen the guy was also selling.

I've bought bikes for a crank more than once (t.a. cyclotourist), a seat (brooks flyer), and hubs (sturmey Archer aw). Usually I buy for the frameset.

sounds silly but I bought a Nishiki mountain bike for the tires. I needed knobly tires for a Kuwahara Shasta that cane with slicks and it was much cheaper to get a whole $10 bike than buying 2 new tires.

The rest of the story is that a few months later someone was looking to trade a road bike their neighbour had given them, for an equivalent age mountain bike. They had no interest for that skinny bike with the annoying toe clips so I was happy to help. A good overhaul and nice clean of the mountain bike (i ended up buying new tires to make it a fair trade) and a good old 1987 Vitus Futural all equiped with Zeus parts came my way.

There was a bike attached to the brifters I wanted...

https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-i-wanted.html

I ended up keeping the rest of the bike but I actually did buy it for the relatively rare aluminium 10 speed Chorus Ergopower handles. My plan was to get the handles, put on other handles - and then sell. But I started to like it and:

https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...l#post22409715

The Chorus brifters are still going on another bike.

Indirectly. I wanted the high end custom frame for a 650B conversion. The resold nearly new c record seatpost and Phil single speed rear wheel paid for the frame.

I have a Raleigh Pro frameset that I got from a buddy who bought it in order to sell off the NR parts and wheels. I frown on that practice but couldn't turn down the leftover frameset. What to do with it? Why, build it up as a 3-speed city bike, of course. The co-op had a Swiss-built Condor 3-speed with 700C alloy wheels that would do nicely so, after a decent period of delay to let someone else with nobler intent buy it, I spent the $30 and brought it home. It turned out to be such a nice little bike (that we absolutely do NOT need in this household) that I have not taken the wheels for the Raleigh project. I've since found some bars and grips for it and it is now roadworthy but both it and the Pro are still hanging up in the rafters.

All I wanted was one of these.

Had to buy one of these to get it.

Built it into this.

All that from one rack.

I did it again

I saw a Trek on the Craiglist thread. Way too tall for me, but since it was local I took a look at the post. It was an '82 (I later found out). What caught my eye was it had Campy High Flange hubs. Odd. Closer look revealed they we "No Record" Record Hubs. Really odd. Further look showed they had "Open C" skewers. I have absolutely no need right now for 1959 Campy Hubs/skewers. But someday I will and I now have a set.

Frame and some of the parts will head north to @merziac.
