1) I dont have any recollection of ever seeing one of these before!
2) I feel like this bike answered the question that NO one asked for!
3) Would a glued aluminum frame and fork really even survive one real high speed fall off road?
4) Am I wrong and thinking this bike should remain strictly a collectors museum piece?
5) In regards to 1 - 4 above is this bike really worth anywhere near that much?

a gamble but maybe not as big a gamble as all the dry tinder in the back ground lasting thru the fire season.

Claud Butler Dalesman Touring bike, just tuned - $225 (Roslindale)

Handmade lugged Reynolds 531 58 cm frame bike with classic long chainstays, braze ons for racks and fenders, optimized for loaded touring. 33" standover for rider 5'9" to 6' tall +/- depending on body proportions. Heavy duty rear rack, SKS fenders, true wheels with excellent Panaracer tourguard flat resistant tires. Triple chainringwith 7speed cassette. Chainand rear derailleur just replaced. Vg paint, with superficial scratches but no rust. Though never imported to the US to my knowledge, this model set a standard for serious British made touring bikes. Comparable to a Surly Long Haul Trucker but with livelier handling unloaded, and to a Trek 520 but with a heavier duty frame for load carrying.

Whoa: a Grandis frame, listed without that in the title on eBay.it, with a 220-Euro b-i-n! It appears to be one of their mid-range models (panto-ed seatstay caps & fork crowns, etc.), in 58x58cm.

Thats a helluva a deal at that price and reasonable shipping cost as well. I do have to point out that I see a weird ripple in the downtube on picture 5. I dont see it in pic 1 or 2 tho? Make of it as you will...

From the same seller as the Grandis: this Faini roller in its (charming) original finish, for a 110-Euro b-i-n. Super-rare Milanese marque, and this example has some nice detailing, and some older components. (I wonder if those forks are tweaked a bit...) The seller claims it's 24", but there's no way in hell; more like 21". Much too small for me, alas... Still, it is very worthy of being rescued and having its originality preserved.

I kinda like the drilled out rear dropouts even though they are a bit wonky! it does have some nice detailing on. Cant discern the logo on the crank arm which does not match the logo in the fork crown for "F". I would guess this around 53 cm. I believe the 24 is reference to the rear cog on the 3 speed freewheel. So the gearing is 51/49 chainrings and 24t largest cog - possibly 18/21/24.

This very tall frame is for someone over six feet tall. The seat tube measures 25", the wheels are 27" and standover height is 35". Bike is in great shape, suffering more from storage than heavy use and is built with a lot of high quality components. SunTour Cyclone derailers, Dia Compe brakes and fancy French and Italian wheels with Campagnolo hubs.

Thanks for posting this. I picked it up today. I kept looking at it and couldn’t figure out how the wheels got on it. It came with high flange campy “no record” Record hubs with “open C” skewers. The owner knew they didn’t belong but had no idea what they were beside some campy hubs with Mavic rims.

The bike is an ‘83 and most of the components are in great shape.

Mike

Thanks. I have a very bad habit of picking up bikes because I like a component. I’ve wanted a set of “no record” hubs and open C skewers for a while.

Should be Miyata frame, was top of the line in 85 - originally all Campagnolo equipped - based on previous bf posts

Looks quite a bit nicer than mine (which I really like).

If this was 56cm, I do not think I could resist. I am betting they accept an offer equal to $200 USD (190 euro or so). I am going to guess the shipping will be higher than quoted (more like $80 USD). Getting a Grandis under $300 is pretty solid.
