Lotus Challenger considering purchase

I am going to look at a Lotus Challenger tomorrow. Guy is asking $50 and it looks like it is in great shape. Any idea of the year or value? Is the Challenger a good bike? He said it was late 70s or early 80s. What components does it have? A couple of pictures attached.

Nice entry-level bike, pretty much any Lotus will be a decent bike. Value is hard to determine without knowing your general location, but $50 is a good deal here in the Bay Area. Components are most definitely Japanese; Suntour derailleurs and shifters, Dia-Compe brakes, etc. Nothing special but it should prove to be reliable. Just make sure you fit comfortably on the bike.

FYI, there's a separate forum for determining bike value, you'll probably get a better response here: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...th-appraisals/.
