Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I love ProBikeKit but what would you do?

I ordered from PBK on 8/12.

I picked up my package today, 8/18 after my office was closed when the Post Office tried to deliver on 8/16. I'm thoroughly impressed by their prices and delivery.

My order was properly processed, charged, and delivered, except for one item.

I ordered an Ultegra 12-27 cassette for $48.67. I was billed $48.67 but received a Dura-Ace 12-27 cassette instead.

I can use the DA cassette, but would not be willing to pay the premium for it. I would accept a replacement Ultegra if they were willing to arrange for pickup of the DA cassette. Do I even call or email them to ask?

What would you do?

? You got more than what you paid for? And, you want to send it back?

Perhaps, they didn't have the Ultregra cassette but wanted a satisfied customer and did you a solid.

They do this a lot. They upgrade when they run out of stock. I ordered a 105 and got an ultegra when they ran out. Just enjoy it and keep giving them your business, they did you a solid.

If you ask they'll probably just tell you to keep it.

I have been sending them messages through the online return form for a few weeks with no response. Received something that doesn't fit.

Anyone have any luck contacting them via the form? I think an international call might cost me about half of what the item cost.

It is a trick that drug pushers use. You will get used to Dura-Ace so from now on you will be hooked on the expensive stuff. Man, they are evil.

The cost of postage, re-stocking and admin would be nowhere close to their profit differential between the Ultegra and DA. It would be a bad business decision to burden a customer with the return AND erode their profit margin.

easy...do the right thing and email them...they can either arrange for an exchange at no cost to you...or they may not ever get back to you....either way you did what was right.

I agree that PBK is unlikely to arrange return shipping so if you tell them they'll tell you to keep it (actually it's yours already possession being 9/10...)

I don't know if it boosts your karma to make a sacrifice when you know you won't be taken up on it but you never know.....

Thats cr@pola, everyone who read BF knows that Ultegra last three times as long and is only 3 grams heavier, I'd say you got stuck with some lightweight fragile garbage and it won't last, demand your money back!

I bought a build kit a while back and half the stuff I got was upgraded from the spec sheet, if they didn't have it in stock they just took the next level up and filled the order. Made for one very happy customer.

Keep it, but don't come crying to us when it wears out in 6 rides

I was in the middle of placing an order with them and it seemed to switch from dollars to GBP, which would essentially double the price. Maybe it was just a glitch at the time.

If it was your company, what would you want your customer to do?

The right thing is, as someone else said, to call their attention to the mistake, then leave the ball in their court.

Otherwise, you are taking unfair advantage of the situation.

Bad Karma to keep it without letting them know. Just tell them...I'm sure they'll tell you to keep it. And even if they don't...it wasn't your to begin with. Don't be a thief.

I'm intrigued that both of you seem to know what type of access I have to a phone as well as what phone service plan I might have. That is awesome! It is also really cool that you know what I ordered and how much it cost.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will go through the trouble of typing up a completely useless post. Never.

Moving on...

Has anyone ever gotten a response from PBK after sending in the online Return Authorizations Form? I have sent it numerous times and not heard back. I've had great experience ordering from them, but trying to return something has been a pain. They simply haven't responded.

Really? Surely you must have a gas station nearby. Surely they sell calling cards. Surely those cards have affordable rates with UK, varying from 3 to perhaps 10-15 cents/minute.

I'd love to see one of you guys take the trouble to purchase a calling card to call a company and inform them that they shipped you a product of greater value than you were supposed to receive, for the same price.
