2000 gt zr 1000

Hi, this bike is in very good condition. Is it worth $500? My research says it is somewhat rare and desirable, but I don't know to what extent. Thanks!

Its worth $500 -- rare or desirable? Maybe to the right person , but to the general cycling populace, its just a harsh riding aluminum framed crit machine equipped with Ultegra

The GT name is popular with the BMX crowd so the bike might be worth a bit more to certain people because of that

Pretty nice bike. That blue and yellow was the color scheme associated with the brand. They were the LOTTO (Belgium) team bike sponsor at one point (very similiar bike at first, then they moved to titanium.) Z an R are the initials for "Zaskar Road". With ksyriums and that Reynolds fork, that bike probably rides very nicely. It's probably 7005 aluminum or something like it. Nice stuff. It IS from just after 2000 most likely. If "like new" and I wanted it, I'd probably try to get it for about $400.

Thanks very much. I didn't know what "ZR" meant.

Bikepedia says the frame is Easton 6061 T-6 Elite... any thoughts on that?

I'll check it out today I think.

I looked up the 6061, seems legit.

Update: The bike was in 9/10 condition, and I was able to negotiate a decent price, so I bought it. I'm not sure it's for me.... haven't ridden drop bars for decades... but worth a try.

Also, the Ultegra RD must be a replacement. It's got DuraAce everywhere else.

I'll post pics at some point. Here's the bikepedia page. The colors are much more vivid than shown on bikepedia, as you can see above.

Based on the wider range cassette the DA rd was likely changed out to Long cage Ultegra to alloy for the wider gear range. I would actually consider this a plus if everything works good since the DA race gearing was pretty steep. As for value if you got for less than $500 you did good.

Dura Ace everywhere ? -- Sounds like a great score !

There are things you can do to manipulate the cockpit to be more user friendly --- swap the stem for a shorter one and install a set of riser bars like the Specialized Hovers , along with a zero offset seatpost and everything will be a little more leisurely

Thanks, that makes sense as to why the RD was switched. I noticed the wider cassette and it was a good thing for sure. I live in a hilly area and that steep cassette wasn't going to cut it, no way no how. BTW, shifts great to all gears even with the revised setup.

Hey thanks for the ideas, I'll keep them in mind. I think a shorter stem would be the first thing to try. It's ok now, but having the bars a little closer to me would be better. This thing is LIGHT... I think about 18 lbs but I need to check that.

Here are some pics exactly as bought. The most worn part is the cranks, just some scuffing. I can barley see the DuraAce, but it's there . I think I might tone down the bottle cages! Anyway, since I live in San Diego, with those colors the bile has been christened The Charger.

The Charger

Ping pong paddles... I believe that's a good thing?

For sizing fit maybe try flipping the stem to the down racing position.for this style frame the stem bars should be slightly lower than the seat.

Go easy on me, I'm old and this is my first road bike in a looong time lol. I'm not ready for the stem flip, maybe never will be!

I did get a shorter stem that will bring the bars closer and also lower them a bit even in the upward position.

Before I install the new stem, I note that the tube is "bare" below the stem on the current attachment... see picture. Should there be some spacers there? Or is it ok as-is?

Any other tips for changing out the stem? It looks simple enough, but I know there's always something.....

Thanks!

Current stem - note the "bare" tube below the stem attachment

Yes there should be spacers covering the full gap other wise there wont be any tension on the headset. Not for adjusting just right height spacers can be placed on the top or bottom of the stem but there needs to be enough to allow for tension on the stem cap bolt.
