Female axles with pegs

Female axles with pegs
I'm riding a big bmx, and I'm looking to get a singlespeed hope pro 4, however it uses a female axle (M10), and I've seen arguments on both sides about using pegs, saying it can damage the hub, or that it should be fine. How risky is it, is it genuinely something to worry about or something that could happen?

Pegs... you talking BMX stuff? Do people still do that?

As a fat kid eager to destroy my pride, I never had an incident destroying a set of pegs. Owned a few different sets & the ones I liked the most were small in diameter & could screw on to the axle. Gravity took me down a lot.

Understood, but I'm talking specifically about female axles, as I've had experience with male nutted axles, but female ones are different and supposedly a lot less sturdy, so I'd like to know if they are suitable for pegs, thanks.

The three differences I recall having are: ones that were threaded & those screwed on to the axle, another that as you stated "male nutted" as the peg slid over the axle & a nut followed behind inside the peg to clamp it in-place [hated those type] & then finally the ones that studded into an axle. For these, I highly recommend high quality hardware. Personally, I suggest finding a stud that will thread into the axle as far as possible without issue that will also leave enough exterior stud thread that will go as far in to the peg as possible. Then find a serrated nut that has the tallest crown to secure it in place. Look up ARP stud fasteners & send them a quick email for recommendation.
