Inner rim width of the Araya TM-820
Hi bike experts,
Can someone please tell me, what the inner rim width of the Araya TM-820 rims is? I need to know what rim tape fits and what tire sizes are compatible with it.

Do you have them? Just measure between the bead seats. No need for even second decimal place precision if measuring in inches. If metric, then to the closest mm will be good enough for choosing your tape.
As for the BSD so you know what size tire fits on them, that will probably be a 559. They are for 26" mtn bike tires aren't they?

+1, the cheapest calipers you can buy would be good enough for this task. And that's if the ruler you undoubtedly already own isn't fancy enough. 
But, since I have a backup of the Araya rim catalogs on my PC, I can tell you that the spec for the width between the beads is 17mm. So I would use an 18 or 19mm tape, as the rim is obviously wider where the tape goes...

This is a fairly narrow rim for the 559 size and I would not run tires wider then 1.5" wide. But there's no reason why you couldn't try fitting a wider one. As to rim strip I suggest something around 15-17mm width. Andy

It's not as black-and-white as those ISO charts make it seem. You could probably go wider, but I agree with Andrew that this (whether we're talking about the 820 or 880) is a relatively narrow rim for 26". If you want to run wide tires, you might look into wider rims.

i just have to put two cents in here. i have two sets of 26 wheels with 22mm wide rims (external) some ritcheys and some mavericks. ran 2.1's on them many times without issue. is it ideal? probably not, but it's not not doable. no one really knew any different in the 90's, anyhow. (i still use the mavericks, too!)

Width is more about you and how you ride. When they get too wide, they'll feel squirrely on turns, and especially on twisty downhill turns no matter what pressure you inflate them to.
Continental says you can go up to a 52 mm (2.0") wide tire on a rim with 17mm internal width and for hooked/crochet style rims. On 19 mm rims, you are good all the way up to 62 mm (2.5") wide tires.
