Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, for example- though admittedly I haven't seen it myself, and I could be wrong about the mitigation effect- but California and Japan have building codes for earthquakes- natural disasters that are quite common in those areas of the world, kind of like hurricanes are here.

I would expect a city that is over three hundred years old to have a better plan in place than, "Oh well, this always happens, we'll just rebuild exactly like we always do."

Anyway, sorry for the rant, this is just one of those issues for me. Carry on.
Great rant! It segues nicely with my traffic rant.

I should try to tuck in behind @WhyFi for the break. Maybe he'll pull me through to the podium.

Anything good? I've been reading The White Tower by Michael Wisehart after reading his prequel that was free from a Facebook advertisement.

Much like addiction posting I tend to get more reading done when I'm employed. It's my lunchtime activity. When I'm home I occasionally will pick up a book and burn through it quickly, but usually I try to do more active things when I'm at home.

That post in the 41 about internal cable routing reminded me of my awesome magic trick I did routing the cable through the aero bars on the QR. I fed the cable in and used a good strong magnet to pull it out of the bars on the other end. Then I fed the housing in from that end. I was pleased with myself, but my wife wasn't impressed.
