Nice bikes in this thread! Thanks to Juvela, i found out that i come across a old torpado bike. The bike was equiped with very old grandis decals, but i figured out that tis is not a grandis bike. Now i am sure it is a torpado from the 60s. When allowed i will post some photos.. thank you

FWIW..... If anyone runs across a Super light in 58 cm and don't grab it for themselves, let me know.... since my super strada punched above it's weight class I have wanted to try top end torpado

Hello, I have 2 in 56.
They are not all created equal?
Earliest ones from early 70's are best. They have quite a mix of components.

I do have a very nice all original mid 1950's in 58.
Original majastroni steel crank. Grand sport steel derailleur, gold paint over chrome with lots of patina. Water bottle cage and brooks saddle.
I am in Montreal area, I could pack and ship if you are interested.
The mid 1950's Torpados are the best, a little bit heavier but very nice road / touring bikes.
I have 3 one for me and one for each of my two brothers. We do 3 to 4 day road trips each summer.

Let me know if you are interested? One day or another I will need to sell them all, but until then keep riding

The story was that a good frend of mine gave me a nice gazelle champion du monde. He know that i love old bikes. The gazelle is from the 1974, original paint but rusty on places. Have not the original rear d and no original pedals. I striped the bike and let it in tis state till i find all components to finish it...no hurry. Then a month ago i visit one flea market in italy and found a bike with campagnolo rear deraiuler an campagnolo pedals. I said yes,now i have the parts to finish the gazelle. I bought the bike and at home i finally looked better at it. It had verry worn grandis decals, but after searching a bit i was sure that it is not grandis but a repainted bike.then i posted the photos of the frame and with the help of some good people, figured out that it is a torpado. In the end i said,man, this is a nice bike i will save it from destruction, the gazelle will wait...

i greased and cleaned the bike, didnt want to paint it,let it be in this color so there will be no stres scratching it. Put on the chepest handelbar tape so i can do a couple of rides!

campagnolo record crank,acording to velobase, second version, raised area around pedall hole,1959-1961. Helped me to date the bike!!!

An elderly friend of my wife's offered to sell me this entry-level bike 3 years ago and I declined. Yesterday she asked me to come to get it because she 'knows' I'll appreciate it. Frankly, I would have appreciated it more if they hadn't left it in a cold damp shed for the last 3 seasons.
Here it is, warts and all. Valentino Extra crap, no name hubs and rims but at least it has Universal 61's.

Good eye on the shifters...you missed the Delrin FD or not, but really, it's as adequate or better than the Campy Pushrod equivalent.

I don't see a lot of mileage on this bike. Serious dirt disguised as rust with minor chrome spackles. The Lime-Ricky polychromatic paint was maybe misted on at a distance of 3 meters and the foil decals used flour glue from elementary school.
Since I have to keep it, I will clean it up...later. Retirement from full-time work begins Oct 31, whew.

I was having a pm conversation with another member when Torpado came up. I thought I posted one I acquired a couple years ago, but I couldn’t find it. This is basically how it came to me after flipper/seller got the seatpost unstuck. He had the bb in backwards and marred things up a bit. I did correct things good enough for a spin, but this is how it sits. 1985 I think with original tires and seat and probably everything else. Too bad things get neglected. It may be a project for next winter.

I took it our for my first lunchtime ride today, and it's amazing....point and go very responsive but not twitchy at all. it has a Suntour Winner-Pro freewheel and it falls right into gear.
It still needs a little fine tuning but it's about there.
I have some white bar tape and new Gum hoods in route as well.
