Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd just like to say that the Mavic CXP Pro is a nice rim to build a wheel with.

That is all.

That's the same right-of-way that the Hiawatha Trail uses. What a tortured route that was. So many bridges, tunnels and rock cuts.

Yeah, I was still in the dues-paying portion of the programme when I took that photo. It was still fun, just a different kind of fun.

We had a fun midweek ride. A total of 10 in our group and everyone mostly behaved. One rider jettisoned his rear blinkie on the way out of town. I saw approximately where it landed, in some grass by the side of the road, so I decided on our way back we could have a “Treasure Hunt” group-building activity to find the missing light. One rider skipped the rest stop and got to the site a minute before the rest of us, so he cheated and found the light as the rest of us arrived.

Even so, it was 100% fun.

Indoor season has begun early, or at least for an unusual reason this year - rain. Normally, the reason for indoor season to start in August or September, it's smoke.
September is really messing with my mileage, between the heat, then the knee, and now rain.

So Simon’s due date is Jan 8. Ever since that date was determined I had joked that it has to be moved up to Dec 31st for tax reasons. Just talked to our insurance, if he is born Dec 31st it will cost 225.00 if he is born Jan 1st it will cost 3000.00. Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

When that awful heat wave ended we started a couple weeks of great weather. Yesterday we had puffy clouds and a high in the 70s. It was actually a little chilly when we started. Today I rode solo for a couple hours and there were no clouds but it was still super nice.
Supposed to get back to 100 this weekend. Great.

Not all recumbents are bad. I rode this quite a bit back in the late 2000s due to back trouble and some surgeries. Full carbon, 17.5#, all DuraAce. Smooth as silk.

I am building a new fixed gear wheelset. 32 hole, Origin8 high flange hubs, H plus Son TB14 rims. What are your thoughts on DT Champion vs Competition spokes? I have the Champions and would save ~$70 by not buying the Competitions. I really like the idea of DB spokes but not sure if there's really a practical difference.

My family has rented a place in Lake Lure NC for the week. I am off of work beginning tomorrow and ending Monday and am planning on riding up there tomorrow.

Just found out that the ride will end with a 1.5 mile 10%-20% climb after 77 miles and 6000'

Should be fun It will also be the first time my brother has been to the Southeast
