Quick and beautiful; from the departure of the (all caps, sorry we have a flame filter) Messenger spacecraft.

Leaving Earth

Video Credit: NASA/JHU Applied Physics Lab/Carnegie Inst. Washington

Explanation: What it would look like to leave planet Earth? Such an event was recorded visually in great detail by the MESSENGER spacecraft as it swung back past the Earth in 2005 on its way in toward the planet Mercury. Earth can be seen rotating in this time-lapse video, as it recedes into the distance. The sunlit half of Earth is so bright that background stars are not visible. The robotic MESSENGER spacecraft is now in orbit around Mercury and has recently concluded the first complete map of the surface. On occasion, MESSENGER has continued to peer back at its home world. MESSENGER is one of the few things created on the Earth that will never return. At the end of its mission MESSENGER crashed into Mercury's surface.

For those who get tired of the 'Scam Likely' on your smartphone, this rapper made a rap tune about it:

Don't need an app for that. My phone rings and it's not somebody in my contacts? Scam likely. There, that was easy.

FIFY, or rather fixed it for ME. My smartphone is a work phone, and I gave out the number only to work contacts (and my wife in case of emergency, but normally she and everybody else texts me on the google voice number I got for personal use)

I just counted in my history, there were 50 calls listed over the past two years (the whole time I've had the phone), which I guess is about one call every other week. And I'm not gonna go tally it up, but probably 40-45 of those are redirect calls to my Google Voice number.

A couple of the people who previously had the number of my work phone apparently got it onto every scam (and political party) list in existence... and the most recent one also apparently didn't tell people she changed her number (including the power company). Fun times. Every so often I get yet another email from my credit monitoring company saying they found the number on a hacker list on the internet, related to the email address of one of the former owners of the number (I have no idea if it's always from the same account, or if she signed up a lot of places that got hacked-- they don't tell me which site it was hacked from).

My personal phone is not so bad and I try to keep it that way-- I actually have a cheap "burner phone" that I use for just about everything except personal calls (ordering things online, businesses that need it, etc.).
