Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Listened to it. He heard that somewhere or made it up. Who knows? It might be true if there were some sort of units of knowledge to count and rate for their information value, but we don’t. Electronic publishing and the open access model have made it possible to publish any piece of crap in an indexed journal.

We did wonder, but I don't think injured. Possibly stunned, though I understand their hitting something is pretty unlikely. No obvious signs of physical harm; both legs/feet working fine to grip the branch, and it was very alert -- doing that owl thing of following our every movement. It was perched as you see about 20 minutes or so after we noticed, then simply flew off -- very quickly/smoothly. If it had lingered, we would have called a local charitable org. that specializes in wild/rare bird/animal rescue and rehab.
Thanks for sharing, glad the bird is alright. By coincidence I heard a Great Horned Owl with that iconic “hoot” in the dark just this evening as I was walking the dog. A rare event here, I’ve heard then around my property before but this one sounded unusually close. This must be owl day.

Ventured outside today with a friend. He was on a mountain bike and has not ridden in years so the pace was jog like. It was nice to be alone while riding some where new. The bike path near my hotel is pretty sweet, looks like maybe 12 miles worth.

I got stung by a bee which was not sweet.

Trinity Trails in FW?

If so, you can go much more than 12 miles.

I went out early today and did some steep little climbs. Since I missed the usual Tuesday ride my friend offered to forgo his Wednesday hammer ride and ride with me to get pizza. Only problem is my legs are sore. WTF?

And this cat suddenly has way too much energy. Doesn't know what to do with himself.

Taking it in a different direction, I imagine if there's an imagery database for research, the way I think there is for genetic sequencing, that would have grown an impressive amount in the last two years.

UPDATE: Had to replace the oil-drenched air filter. It sputtered a bit and emitted more smoke the first few minutes, but after that it ran pretty much like it did pre-accident.

Relieved.

Check the oil and make sure you didn't lose too much.
