Life expectancy for cycling shoes

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Usually if the boa rips off, it's not going to hold up to being repaired like when it was originally bonded. How long before the original boa detaches depends on how tight the user likes it & how aggressive it is pulled up on.

Over the course of the last 16 years (i.e., since the start of my obsession as an avid recreational road cyclist) I have worn out two pairs of cycling shoes. Both died right around the 12 year point, and that's based on 5-7,000 miles/year. Of the shoes I still own, One pair just turned 12, and while the soles are starting to separate from the uppers right on time, I don't think they're quite bad enough to retire...but if they do fail within the next year I'll consider that yet one more data point to support my contention that the life expectancy of cycling shoes is right around ~60,000 miles.
