Show Us Your Bikes Starting With V

Here's your chance to show us your bikes alphabetically!

It goes like this: every fortnight I'll start a new thread with a new letter in alphabetical order. Post your classic and vintage bikes that correspond to that letter, eg; C = Cinelli, Carlton, Ciocc. M = Mercian, Masi, Motobecane. And so on and so forth. The letter of the fortnight should correspond with the marque, not the model. For example; you could post your Tommasini Prestige in the T thread, but not in the P thread. If you're not sure, take a look at the word on your downtube. There's a grey area with people's names - Bruce Gordon, Claud Butler, etc., but I'll leave it up to the owners which thread is preferred. Make sense?

So let's see your Van Tuyls, Vikings and Vitii (one Vitus, two Vitii.)

Voodoo CX bike from the late 90s. Totally redone as a 1x Gravel monster. I had it powder coated and have a blue logo kit for subtle style.

Vitus Argal - Nos frame built up this year with a brand new Ultegra R8000 groupset for climbing duties. It'll climb a wall with the gearing but to be honest coming down on it sucks. I think it's the bonded fork on these but it just feels very vague and unstable coming down at any speed. Great for flat roads and such. I've had it listed locally and if it's not gone by spring I'll decide if I'm going to tear and down and use the parts on another frame or seek out a better fork. Really beautiful bike that someone else may love as it but I like a more stable feeling descender when I'm going down at 40+ mph.

"As found" and current state of my Viking project. This is one of the early Lambert-built frames with standard English BB threading. Steel fork from a Raleigh Technium. I've got a decal set for it, and an earlier metal head badge. Plans are to paint the head tube white. Not sure what drivetrain I'll bolt in... leaning toward a Lambert crank with a 7-speed Nexus.

I converted my Viscount to a fixed gear. The chainring is original but the cranks are not. They are TA, 155mm length.

'70s Vista Elite

This was my Vista Elite, with a Sturmey S3X 3 speed fixed hub and left side drive. Budget brand Vista tried moving upmarket in the mid-70s with a very nice, light frame, probably made by Nishiki. The bike was originally sold with sew-ups and a 1st generation Dura Ace grupo.

It had been 30 years since I'd ridden fixed and back then the fixie was my daily ride. Much older, and with many other bikes to ride, I could not break myself of the habit of trying to stand and coast over potholes. So I traded it to a young neighbor for a season's worth of lawn mowing. But after 2 mows she moved away, taking the bike with her.
