Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gabapentin. You can try it. Start with 1 at bedtime.

Gabapentin. That’s a low dose. Try it and. You can escalate slowly if it’s helping. I took it for a while when I had my disc. I wasn’t crazy about it, but it kept me off opioids.

yep. I might take 2 on weekends since I won't be working and won't have to be sharp in case I'm a little drowsy from it. I also might take 2 at night when I ride. I've read some people are prescribed as much as 3600 mg taken in equal amounts 3 x day.

I'm ascared after reading about it. I just hope it's enough to work so I can at least build up a little fitness while being treated.

That’s the right approach and, yes, 3600 is about the ceiling. GIve yourself a while to develop some tolerance to the side effects before deciding it’s not for you and escalate slowly.

It made me comatose. When I had Shingles in my eye the doc gave Gabapentin to me and said try 2 at first. I don't remember what the mg was but it knocked me out and Mrs John couldn't wake me up. She was worried and thought about calling 911, it was that bad, but I woke up the next day. The second night I took 1 and it was a similar deal. That was it, I never took it again. I never took the opiate they gave me either. A friend gave me THC pills and that got me through the worst of it.

Took Mrs. Peel out for her Shakedown Ride. First impressions - MAN, after modern brifters, those brake levers are TINY!!! Braking - front brakes barely work, rear brakes work pretty well, but they squeal like mad. Gearing - I need more gears! Or at least different ones. 43x23 is still pretty tall for a low gear. I think I can make a wider range cassette, AND a smaller small ring. Fit - not bad. I think I managed to set the saddle height pretty well.

The braking is my biggest concern I'm pretty sure I've got a bad interaction between the pads and the rim somehow. I'd be more worried if this were the final front wheel, but it's not. I'm gonna sand the pads a bit, and clean the new wheel well, and try it again. The rear, I thing may have toe OUT, hence the squeal.

The ride was shorter than I'd have prefered because there's some kind of front moving and it got COLD and windy. I did manage to get a picture with the last of the sunlight, before the clouds blotted it out.

Flip. Hahahahahaha! Too much blood, toil, tears, and sweat went into the build! Maybe if I get tired of it down the line. I don't think I'm made to flip bikes anymore than I'm made to flip watches.

Plus, I dropped more into this build than I could ever recoup. I could probably sell it for a couple hundred less than everything I put into it. I mean, I literally spent $40 on cable housing I never intended to use, just because it came with the right ferrules for the 7200 brake levers.

I don’t like taking opioids either. My brother was an addict, he got started on percs for his back pain and devolved from there.

When I had my hip surgery in 16, I told the doc I didn’t want any. He said okay, then laughed and said I’ll check back after surgery.

When I woke up, the nurse asked if I wanted any and I immediately responded yes. Was on it for three days in combo with some gout meds. When I stopped taking the opioid, I got a blinding headache and felt like ****.

Is gabapentin just gaba in pill form? Back in my body building days I would supplement gaba to help me sleep. It worked well but the initial intake would leave you short of breath which was really scary. Used it for a couple of weeks but stopped. Not sure if it was the initial shortness of breath or the vivid dreams that caused me to stop using it.

I got some oxycod a couple weeks ago, but HTFU and didn't take any.

I'm keeping it, though, for if/when I have more hip flair ups. Those are bad.

It would be great to have a stylish snowsuit like this for winter cycling (sans the boots). Why do they need boots in space?

No, it’s not. It was intended to act positively on GABA receptors, but that’s not how it works, apparently.
