Less show and more go. (meaning get in shape before buying some fancy bike)
Drink water before you get thirsty. This here helped me make loads of extra km before the dreaded bonk.

Don’t blow snot rockets in a pace line AND mom says: when its your turn to lead a pace line, keep the existing pace rather than rocketing ahead and either dropping everyone or burning out the suckers that will follow your blistering pace.

Years ago, I got into mounting biking in the woods.
My friend told me if there is an object you want to avoid, do not look at it.
Look where you want the front tire to go, not at the obstacle you're trying to avoid.
You ride directly towards whatever you're looking down at.
I still use this tip decades later, while avoiding potholes, for example.

The best tip I ever got was from the Greg LeMond book. Something like...."If you can't afford a coach, buy rollers."

FIrst saying was, "Don't Fall"
Second was, "If you want to lighten the bike, push away from the table."

Do everything before you must...maintenance, shifting, braking, eating, resting, drinking, etc. This will save you grief and frustration, and make each ride pleasant and safe...

That works well not only in cold weather. Sadly, living on the coast, this is an advice that I'm unable to use half of the time, as that would require me heading into the sea.

Wife’s bike
Spend 1/3 to 1/2 more on your wife’s bike than yours when you buy her a bike. The better the bike the easier to get her to go cycling.

Drink before you are thirsty and eat before you are hungry
For the nicer weather months: If you are warm when you start your morning ride, you are overdressed.

Another single best: When changing the rear wheel, shift first to the smallest cog. It will make getting the wheel back on easier and you will automatically know where the chain goes.

Love many, trust few, paddle your own canoe. (In reference to whitewater boating, tandem cycling, bicycling in general.)

When I started mountain biking, on the very first ride my buddy told me to get out of the saddle and upshift a few gears to pedal over technical stuff.
“Look where you want to go” is likely the most important tip, though it is not specific to cycling..
