Trek 720 Info please
Today I was shopping on FB Marketplace and saw an add for 2 Trek bikes. A 720 and a 7000. I asked the seller if they were for sale individually. They were so I drove over with an interest in the 720. It was left outside in an open sided covering with minor surface rust. All of the cables and chain was rusted. We agreed on $20. The seller said I'll give you both for $40. I told him the 7000 had a bent front rim and I really did not want it. So I just said 2 for $30 and he said yes. I am trying to find information on the 720. The color scheme is purple to black with white decals. Which according to vintagetrek.com make the bike a 1993. The bike was made in Taiwan. Serial # T8CB59694 with a second # just under the prior # BI0407. CroMoly frame and fork. RD is Altus A20 Crank Altus A20 Brakes Altus C10. Shifters Sram Gripshift MRX Comp. Tires Bontrager Select Invert B 700x35. My questions are (1) is it a 1993 according to the serial # and (2) are the components original? This is all new to me so I need your help. Thank you in advance.

I found a copy of the 1993 Trek catalog online. The one on vintagetrek.com would not open before I started this thread. Looks like it is a 1993 with original parts except tires.

There is a thread titled "Show Your Trek Multitrack" with all sorts of information regarding these wonderful, versatile bikes. Sounds like you got a great deal!

Smokinapankake, I have gone through that thread. That was the reason that I purchased the 720. Truly enjoyed the pictures of the bike and what others have done to it. She needs a little work, but I have some spare time. I have been meaning to post a picture of her on that thread. Just been busy. It will be there shortly.

I have a 720, '96 I think. My daughter rides it now. It's been a great bike. They're very versatile... like any early hybrid is. I wish I could find a nice lugged 750, in my size, at a price I could afford.
