The external bearings on the Truvativ crank on my most-traveled bike has about 12,000 miles. Spins smoothly. Mostly but not entirely ridden in fair weather.

Conditions and usage are everything. I had a Shimano D/A bottom bracket on a cross bike that I know was 20 years old when it was retired for being a bit lumpy feeling. Those years included 6 with a touring pro and then many more of abuse and neglect from me.
Then there's the MTB BB that lasted me one year in a frame with no drain hole that had accumulated a tablespoon of silt.

Speaking for mine, it could be poor shell facing (I am taking Surly at their word that their frames are 'made to high standards' -- for the moment), it could be front tire spray (I ride fine gravel bike/multi-usage path, all weather), it could be my weight (call it 250 lbs), it could be excessive curb jumping and taking pot-holes standing the pedals, etc.
What can I say; I've pretty much run destroyed my last 4 pairs of bearings in 4000 miles or less.

I had over 40 000km on my Mavic wheels that came on my Roubaix.
The only reason I had to stop using them was due to pothole damge, not the bearings.

I can't say about your particular frame but my Surly Pacer's bb shell was both cleanly threaded and had very parallel faces. A Hollowtech II crank installed with absolutely no effort or "wiggling" needed to insert the spindle through both cups and, so far, it has run smoothly and quietly. I did take the time to remove the paint (powder coat) overspray from the shell faces.

Hello
Approximately 30,000 miles out of Phil Wood Bottom Bracket with NTN 6903, thats on my 1986 Miyata 610, Daily commuter.
One side went bad (crank arm got a little sloppy) just last month, Replaced with a generic 6903 2RS
