Richmond VA area and singlespeeds
Curious, how hilly is it around there? Advising a friend there on a new bike (he's a novice) and wondering how a singlespeed would be there as one's only bike. He'll probably be mostly riding around the city, bike paths, casual exploring. I love my ss, but I live in climbing country so I always have a geared bike as well.
Lots of variables I know--fitness, etc--- but generally speaking, how "climby" is the Richmond area? The maps all look pretty flat, but you know it can be different once on the ground.

Not flat. Lots of hills. Realize that any road/path that goes down over the James River has to climb back up.
