the bike friday suitcase

(also posted in touring bikes)

The bike friday suitcase that bike friday sells comes out to 68 linear inches. 21.7x13.8x31.9 = 68"

I'm *very* surprised that the suitcase listed on a bike friday site isn't 62 inches which is the standard for not getting an oversize charge from the airline given that the bike friday bicycle is touted as something that can easily be flown with.

Has anyone gotten a new world tourist bike in a regulation suitcase of 62 linear inches and if so which model suitcase did you use?

I have flown domestically and internationally with by NWT in the Samsonite case BF sold me a number of years ago and never has anyone measured it or commented in any way on its size. They weigh it and throw it on the conveyor belt with a "Caution: Heavy" sticker on it. I never thought to measure the case until this discussion and don't really know what the official way to measure a suitcase is but, best I can tell, my case measures out at 64". My guess is, if Samsonite sells it, the airlines are going to take it. Many airlines now take bikes in bike boxes as checked luggage with no fees. I've never given it a thought or had any trouble at all.

No personal experience, but given that it looks very "normal suitcase" looking at a glance, they aren't going to go all forensic on you with measuring it.
Follow the usual "be friendly, smile and be early" mantra that is always the best thing ime with flying.
