The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power, by Daniel Yergin, 1990.
Written 30yrs ago, it's still probably the best overview of the petroleum industry from inception to 1990 (when the book was published). Covers all key players, discoveries, technologies, markets, and the inherent geopolitics of it all. Fantastic book.
Also made into a PBS documentary (in eight parts).
