I am riding more carefully but COVID is only part of it. Aging also. Routine crashes hurt more, now and after. I re-injure old injuries. Bone break that wouldn't have 20 years ago.
The COVID side of it: Being a good citizen means not over-burdening our health care system. I talk to ambulance drivers. (Been doing that for years. First getting to know the crews who join us for the week long Cycle Oregon then the crews who take their breaks awaiting calls at the Saturday morning Farmers Market 1/2 mile form two on Portland's major hospitals.) Now those crews are looking run ragged at 11:30 in the morning and 90% of their runs are COVID. Yes, scraping me off the pavement would be a welcome break to "the old usual" but I really don't need to make their day harder.
I now ride less at night. Less in the rain. Don't push myself stupid like I used to. (Yeah, age there too.) Don't take corners as fast. Have altered some of my routes. Mileage is down a lot. I think it is important that I look like I am taking this COVID stuff seriously as an example. The simple concept of civic duty.

Speaking for myself, I have had enough traumatic injuries to know that you can wind up needing intensive care in an instant. Those five dead guys in Las Vegas just thought they were going on a bike ride. No matter how careful I am, a car can cancel my ticket at any time. Your mileage may vary, but I am in L.A. where the hospitals, ICUs and EMS are at 100%. More and more, I’m thinking I’m not going to put extra stress on the system.

I decided not to get on the roof to paint some side boards until this covid is over. I have no neighbors that can see it so I don’t care 
.. The previously owner fell off the roof or slid off it since it’s metal and broke both arms. His wife had to wipe his butt for few months literally. I should hire someone to do it but I’m a DYI person and the savings can go into biking etc etc. Then again if I fall it would cost more than hiring somebody. Hospitals being full I will stay off the roof.

Not a fan of colder weather, so no need to cut back on rides. I am taking appropriate precautions to (hopefully) avoid needing to go to a hospital. Just found out that a neighbor across the street just recently recovered from covid. Another up the street has been in the hospital for a couple of weeks, and isn't doing so well. Hoping he recovers--really good guy that is liked by everyone. Those who think covid is some kind of "hoax" or is some kind of political conspiracy, and refusing to take precautions really irk me! Please be cautious, as we know, this virus is nothing to be taken lightly!
