Ex Sanson team Moser bike project - finished at last!
Hi Guys,
Have been working on this one for some time, finally finished and ready to test...
The frame came to me from Italy and was in poor shape, as per a previous couple of post on here it was a poorly repainted frame masquerading as a Benotto - which it clearly wasn`t. What I did know was that it was an ex team bike made by Ugo De Rosa between `78 and `80, most likely 1980 due to the allen bolt brake bridges. An email from Derosa confirmed it was by him, also the sandcast De Rosa lugs helped place it and the "MAZ" stamped on the bottom bracket along with a bit of the original blue marked it out as being Leonardo Mazzantini`s 1980 Sanson team bike.
Bare metal strip down showed a clumsy braze on front deraileur mount had been added so was carefully removed, then the the whole thing repainted to match the Sanson `79/`80 blue Moser scheme. Frame size is kind of 56 ish medium, but quite streched out with a long reach.
Parts wise, super record throughout coupled with some really neat 126mm Campag Titanium hubs with 26 spoke straight pull flattened spokes with what look like Wolber magnesium rims, can`t be sure but they are really light.
Weight wise, I figured I should take a few details with this being a hand made Ugo frame:
Frame - 1160g
Forks - 710g
Wheels (pair) 1250g
Overall including pedals and bottle cage - 9.03kg, 19.8ibs.
The build was really easy - should point out that rear wheel required no centering at all, just set the adjusters even and spot on first go, everything just went on easy. Too wet and cold here in the UK to ride for a few weeks so it will be a shakedown on the turbo to check the fittings and bed the pads in, only thing I have noted is that the panto 125mm stem is not the stiffest in the world, even when coupled with 38cm bars.

Rare indeed, race bikes for a known racer are worthy of full restoration.
I once passed on an early '90s Pinarello Banesto race frameset - mint - with an original name decal. Expensive, but not outrageous. The practical me.
