Probably a few hundred for sand blasting the old paint off and doing the coating.... a lot depends on whether you want a standard color and whether the bike frame can be combined with other items being painted at the coater. But you have to completely disassemble the bike, do a lot of careful masking/prep, and then do reassembly. If you want it to look stock, you also need to buy and apply all the decals. The economics are pretty poor for doing something like this on a $1500 bike. And it dramatically devalues the bike if you ever plan on selling.

That is a question you would ask of the company doing the work , not me.

I have a friend in my town doing Car stuff, Motorcycle frames and things for the Coast Guard.

If I leave a small project with him and just wait until a bigger job using that color comes in ,
the power to heat the oven to melt the power is the biggest cost,

so my piece is cheaper, but , sometimes it sits there for months..

Of course, if you Pay the Regular Price , it gets done quickly..

I named the color of my 2009 Randonee "slime green," though I grew to tolerate it.

This must be "bright slime green," and I can't see ever tolerating it.

It looks close to ANSI lime green. Of course frame surface area is inadequate to present "high visibility" to any motorists, but a set of hi vis Ortliebs would help. Cheaper option which would be equally helpful is an ANSI green long sleeve shirt and the brightest taillight you can afford.

Hopefully, mine will arrive this week. I have some bright yellow Ortlieb rollers to pair with this interesting PeaLimeSoup green bike. A bit otherworldly, but it seems to fit in 2020. I'll let you know if it makes me faster or slower...

Well I kinda like it. There I said it. Ha Actually it is no uglier than many of Surly's previous color schemes they have come up with over the years. I've never understood why they can't give their frames a better paint job. It can't be that much more expensive and lord knows they're now asking enough for their complete bikes that they could afford a metallic paint job, maybe in a deep British emerald green. (if you're listening out there Surly)

Much as I love my LHT, the factory paint was ugly. Surly called it Khaki, but it looked like baby diarrhea brown. I finally took it to a local powder coating facility and had it stripped and redone in a metallic red.
It baffles me why Surly always choose such hideous colors. Anybody here have a theory?

Someone once asserted that they get it cheap, buy in bulk and then change colors once it’s used up. Don’t know I that’s true. I like my black and didn’t mind my utility blue. They once had a decent red. But yeah. Many colors are not appealing. That drab green they had back in the day was one of them.

having a variety of colors and sizes stocked in the warehouse would add to the cost you would have to pay..

Go full custom and you have more options..
