Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I need to ask you guys something.
I never had integrated headset and bike headset has no instructions.
Just looking at the pieces I am not sure where the metal ring with cut goes.Buttom? or up in the headset.I wished simple image would of helped.
Anyone here can help?
Thank you

Oh heck, you can do that! My Trek 2.3 aluminum frame with Shimano 105 components weighs 17.8lb with Ultegra pedals. What groupset are you planning?

I believe what you're talking about sits inside of the top bearing. Should fit snuggly against the inner ring of the bearing?

2004 Trek 1.2 or a 2009 Trek 1.2?
Trek didn't make a 1.2 in 2004.

If you have a 2009, you already have a 19lb bike.
A $3-400. wheelset will get you to 18lbs.

I'm an aluminum snob.
I also didn't like Scanttante.
I have 2 things to say about this frame.

1) Those welds are damn nice. Very well done.
2) I now like Scanttante. Nice paint job.

You are correct.I just typed it without paying attention.Got 2004 trek 1000. Frame was too small 56.Didn't like the triple either.Frame is nice n light if anyone wants to buy I'll sell cheap.

Just a correction! it was stated FRAME HEADSET SIZE: 1 1/8" integrated
Its not ! Its semi-integrated meaning bearings must be pressed in.
Integrated headsets don't need pressing.

I bought a Scattante XRL several years ago and love it. I built it up with a hodge podge of old parts and came up with a nice road bike. After riding it, I wonder why you need to spend thousands of dollars on a bike - this one rides almost as well as they do (and I have a Paramount, Waterford and custom Titanium for comparison).

Regarding the little ring with the cut in it - I also think it fits in the top of the headset, into the bearings.

look at the chart.Actual TT is 55.9 for 57
you can always buy slightly shorter stem.I find little large is better then small.

Here is my confusion.I figured what goes where however crown race when inserted into bottom lower bearing remains few millimeter gap.I don't know if this gap sopposed to be by design or bearing must be inserted by force all the way into crown race.
Same on compression ring.I took 2 pictures showing my dilemma.

you shouldn't look at actual TT size, you should use virtual TT (horizontal) for comparison of sizes
