I had 24t front and 36t rear at Crater Lake and still couldn't get there.

Gotcha beat, 24t front, 32 rear. Last year, for the first time ever I was able to climb Cypress without walking. I did, however did an involuntary dismount near the top. The last half mile or so I was not much over stall speed, 4 curves from the top my front wheel slid out on a rack and some sand, and I was suddenly looking up at the sky. Getting back up and running with toe clips and straps took 5 or 6 tries.

does anyone has contacts to the organizer? I paid the super early bird registration via a coupon code, the transaction went through and shows on my Paypal and account but not on the Eroica homepage side. I contacted them via info@eroicacalifornia.com but I am not getting any replies.
I just want to make sure that when I show up that I get my number and can ride.

I have yet to see anything even vaguely resembling period-correct enforcers for the Eroica CA ride. It might not pass muster at the original in Italy, by assuming it is friction shifting, not indexed, no one at Eroica CA will give it a second thought. A second (and third) look, no doubt, but not a second thought.

The Eroica California rules are a bit different than the Italian ones. I found this buried in the Eroica California website:
"Many people have asked the reason for these rules, specifically with regards to pedals and brakes. In our opinion, aero levers and clipless pedals are the sign of modern-age cycling. Both became popular in the mid-1980s and they forever changed the look of traditional road racing bicycles. Therefore, our founding members have decided not to allow them at our events. However, at 2018 Eroica California, we have decided to allow the aero brake levers with brake cable routed under the bar tape (only the brake lever function is allowed on the levers) to encourage more people to participate. Many of our participants simply swap pedals to comply for the event and switch them back. You can read how to do this in our 'News' section of our website on the homepage."
I know that this clearly states for 2018, but the Eroica organizers are notoriously slow in updating their website, and I saw aero levers at last year's event.
If by kosher you mean rules, then I'm pretty sure you can go with aero levers. If you mean by ethos, I agree. I have one pair of wool shorts I found a few years ago specifically for Eroica California. Even though they aren't required, I try to fit into the ethos as best I can.

I'm guessing I'll be ok too... Didn't Tom Ritchey ride one year of Eroica CA with faux-toe-clip-pedals? Maybe the Tommasini's paint job will be too distracting for them to notice anything else anyway!

So, I was totally incorrect about the aero brake hoods for Eroica California. In 2006 I rode the Eroica Italy. I can tell you that there were rules and they were followed. California has always been much more loose with "the rules" in my opinion.
I know that I am being redundant but here are the stated rules for L'Eroica Italy. Sorry.6.1.a – Heroic bikes or vintage bikes
c) Brake cables must pass outside and over the handlebars (cables can pass inside the frame)
Here are the regulations for Eroica Caifornia
c) we prefer the traditional brake lever setup on the bicycles, brake cables pass outside and over the handlebars (cables can pass inside the top tube of main frame), however, starting in 2017, aero brake levers without built in shifters will be allowed.
So, again, I was totally incorrect about the aero brake set up.

I wouldn't say totally incorrect, even though Eroica Cali gives a pass on aero levers, they'd prefer you rode with old school brake levers.

I still haven't heard back from the organizers about my issue that the registration does not show up but the early bird registration was booked from my account. I sent several emails to info@eroicacalifornia.com but no answers. There is a new email address (or I have not seen it before) service@eroica.cc. I send an email today. If anyone has a contact, please let me know.
If I participate, I will probably ride my Colnago Super but I am looking into changing into a 28 sprocket in the back with a Super Record Derailleur.
