The Falcon came up in rotation today. I changed the freewheel and tires so it would be more suitable for local conditions and it rode beautifully around the Ashokan’s rolling south shore and 11 miles of gravel trail on the return. Starting to feel like my legs are coming back.

Azalea-week
I found this pretty azalea hedge house.
This species is omurasaki, Japan's endemic species.
One of major azalea species, like someiyoshino cherry blossom.








And a little roadside beauty.
There are countless beauties like this all over Japan, in fact.





That beautiful straight hill, again.
But, azaleas haven't blossomed yet, hmmm.
It has been average temp for 2 weeks.

I enjoy this beautiful house every early summer.
The roses have just started to bloom.

They are lemon flowers.
They have started to bloom, too.
Lemon and citrus fruits flowers smell nice.
It is a scent of spring and early summer.




I enjoyed riding today, too.
Riding a grail bike or favorite bike, seeing season's beauties and smelling season's scents are fun and refreshing

Howdy all, I hope everyone's having a great spring weekend!

After three weeks of slowly healing up from a slightly jacked up hip and related sciatic nerve pain, I got back on the bike this morning for an easy 19.7 miles around the countryside. I have only ridden the 1957 Express Werke 45 miles since the restoration last month and so far, so good...

Nice weather today in the 50's after a couple of days of snow and cold. Got some things sorted out on my recent unplanned bin build a Marin Bobcat Trail no money invested so far nearly all salvage parts rides pretty nice. Went for a short shake down ride through town and back home through the cemetery which has some great views everything worked fine the 8 speed integrated triggers aren't great but all the gears work fairly smooth. Now I have to figure out what to so with this bike upgrade some stuff to get it riding really nice or ride it some then likely donate it not much of a market for mid school MTB's here in Fairplay last one I sold was to a friend and I pretty much lost money on it.

Actually looks pretty good in the wild.

Birds and Flowers
After record rains my part of Northern California is as green as it has ever been. Our rainy season is over. The sun is out. Soon these hills will be golden brown.



The wildflowers are popping up all around us.

The birds are making up for time lost to bad weather, and perhaps working overtime to feed a nest full of chicks.
Northern Harrier ("Marsh Hawk" to us old time bird brains) hunting Voles, Gophers, and Meadow Mice.

My Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo has proven to be a great riding bike. I snapped a couple pics from my ride on this past Tuesday.

Took my Bridgestone Submariner out for a ride around the local lake today. I might need some knobbier tyres than the 32mm Gravel King SK:s, lost traction climbing as the tread clogged up.

Set up as 1x10 11-36 with a 9 speed Deore derailleur and a Suntour Blueline friction shifter with a 42 tooth chainring.

Rode 27 miles up to Glencoe. Third ride of the year. There was a cold wind coming off the lake - I couldn’t stop thinking about carbs.

Glencoe has a nice artsy/crafty train station. Tapped a kidney here.



There is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed neighborhood in Glencoe with 5 or 6 houses. Also, the only bridge built by FLW is here.



I spotted a plaque nearby - apparently, they buried a time capsule in 1985 when they rebuilt the bridge. Wonder what’s in it?



Nearby, I found the Booth Cottage, which I don’t remember seeing on previous visits. The cottage has an interesting history.



Turns out, it was moved here in 2020, and that’s why I didn’t recall seeing it. Phew. Had a big plate of ravioli when I got home.

I managed to squeeze a ride in this morning. It's been a long time. 15.78 miles, not bad for a limited-time run. Max speed 25.8 mph. Uphill of course. Did I say uphill? really?




Yeah, I know, it's not the drive side. But it has a nice background this way. And it's definitely both classic and vintage.

I’m in Reno,NV, this weekend for my daughter’s volleyball tournament and decided to bring a bike. I just had time for a quick 15 or so miles out into the foothills in the outskirts of town before starting the Warriors game.Pretty hot and dry temps, felt like low 80s.

Short local shake down ride on recently got Marin MTB. Nearly everything worked perfect brakes are a tad heavy handed semi classic canti's. Fairly nice weather after a couple days of snow and mud so I will rake what I can get weather and bike wise.

I took the ferry over to Vashon Island yesterday and spent the afternoon riding my favorite roads over there. Fantastic weather, temps got up well into the 70’s for the 1st time this year!

Took a day off on Friday and got in 40 hilly miles. I put a pair of the Jack Browns on the Pro to get a little breathing room under the fenders. It’s always interesting to hear a new tire’s “voice”.




I replaced the red Delrin washers with stylish brass ones, so classy!

After a spell off the bike with cracked ribs recently I've been trying to build up fitness again, and as I'm off to cycle in the Italian Alps in less than 2 months, I really need to get a bit of practice at cycling some hills. London doesn't have anything that is going to properly prepare me for cycling up the Stelvio Pass, and the thought of Everesting the same hills over and over is just far too tedious to comprehend.

Instead I'll just cycle around this sprawling metropolis to get miles back in the legs, I'll do my usual street art hunt but go out of my way to find a few climbs too. I'm taking my lugged carbon Look to Italy which is my newest bike, so want to put a good few hundred miles on that so I'm fully familiar with it before throwing it down an Alp at 50mph.

The black and white is no doubt the least rowdy colored bike I own, but it seemed a perfect match for the first pic of the day in Bethnal Green in the east end.

I then go through the Olympic Park in Stratford, before heading to the hills of north London, and it must be high as it says so in the name, Highgate Wood. You are not allowed to cycle in the wood, but I'll gladly walk for a bit as I'm here for my first color dose of the day, and its not an artwork, its one of natures displays. We've had the cherry blossom season, and now its bluebell season, or as I think you Americans call them, blue bonnets, maybe darkmoon can tell us what they are called in Japan, but they are obviously the same thing.

Not surprisingly they are hard to come across in London, but there are a few places they can be found if you know where to look, Highgate Wood is one of those places.

I leave this oasis behind to play with the traffic again, countless traffic lights and many things not worthy of photographing later, I'm back south of river at bluebell spot number two, a quiet little square near Stockwell, where for another brief moment traffic is silenced and birds can be heard tweeting.

I then cycle through Brixton and Dulwich and head for the south London hills of Crystal Palace. There's a bike shop at the top of the hill, and there's a new art work appeared there.

I then catch the eye of a sophisticated French looking damsel and a couple of parakeets.

From here's its down a hill for about a mile, before some more art spots in Penge. The dog I've seen before but the girl and the butterflies are new.

Normally you'd find trolls living under bridges, but today I'm seeing pretty girls there too.

And while my bike today has lugs it does have a distinct lack of chrome, but to make up for that I spot my C&V car of the day. I've never even heard of this make before so had to look it up. Its in remarkably good condition for a car that's 75 years old, and I wonder how it ended up in south London, a 1948 Frazer Manhattan.

I then cycle back up and over the hill at Crystal Palace and back home. 45 miles for the day and 241 miles for week, and I've not even got out of London, time for a well earned beer. It was going to be something healthier but this final art work gave me other ideas. I think this may well become my avatar, and there's a few others here in C&V that rock this look
