out n back to Dana Point for some fish tacos. Good group of friends made it out, mostly sunny today and I didn't wear sunblock. Some didn't have the base pass, so i5 TT it was. I lead both sides, feeling was good today.

Saturday...29mi/3900' MTB ride in the Santa Monica mountains with a couple of great friends. Weather was perfect! Very pleased to finish the ride feeling like I could keep going hard for a while longer.

Sunday...43mi/2200' group road ride. Easy pace for most of it, a little bit of quick tempo, and one hard climb. Arroyo Bike Trail - 6th St Bridge - Elysian Park - LA River Trail - Chevy Chase - Linda Vista. Fun ride with good people. Legs felt better than expected, and I was able to push more watts than expected on the last climb (300W avg for over 6 min).

Finally the forum is working again! I knocked out 30 miles on Saturday afternoon up to the Griffith Observatory on the 2x bike and only 16 miles Monday due a mechanical issue on the 1x bike. Saturday was pleasantly relaxing as well. Every cyclist I rolled up to was super friendly. Gotta love that end of day, gassed out no energy vibe! Lol

…joined a group on a beautiful day around San Dimas, CA but it didn’t end very well.

A bottle popped out from one of the riders upfront and one lost control trying to avoid it, very unfortunate!

His shoulder took most of the impact but the rider was unconscious for a bit!

No spine or head injury, fortunately but he did suffer a dislocated shoulder and several broken ribs!

Stay safe out there and secure those bottles or replace loose cages!

I see posts on social media with cyclists during a race using their rear wheel to knock water bottles out of the way. They showcase it as a show off flex, but I guess they do it for the safety of all riders.

I hope he recovers with no long term injuries!

early 30-miler from mountain center to ca hwy 74/ca hwy 371 junction and back. decent pavement. prescribed burn being set up and executed at the base of thomas mountain during (pretty cool to see). normally, woulda done this ride after 9am to minimize construction truck (ford f150) commuting traffic but it was either ride earlier or not at all. pretty morning and warmed up significantly by ride's end around 9:45am.

30 miles and 2500 feet of climbing on Thursday. Temps are warming up, I was definitely dripping sweat while climbing up double digit elevation. Did some mild dirt climbing up to to Cobb Estate and then riding through the Altadena Crest Trail before heading back home.

I need to check out ACT. I hiked it many years ago, but always seem to forget about it on my bike. Is all of it rideable?

They redid sections by Cobb Estate, so the dirt is a bit loose, but still ridable. The trail is quite wide and open to bikes. I still need to ride it all the way to Eaton Canyon though. It's just something different to add variety to the usual dirt rides around the area. Also I found some trails up the Pasadena hills, but are pretty well hidden. I only discovered them when I did the roadie group ride with PAA.

I had my road bike at the time, so I'm not sure where the trail goes since I couldn't go off-road. It's definitely not Cherry Canyon though.

It was unexpectedly hot today, forecasted 85* but was 96+ Wrong day to do Palomar, and in el cheapo amazon jersey. But gotta rep the the Red White n Blue. It didn't wick sweat away well. We had planned to go down East Grade and climb it but we cut that segment off. Cooled off eating Bacon Smashburger in Harrahs Casino afterwards.

I did 25 miles today cruising through the city midday. It was pretty hot, so I worked up a good sweat. I swung by the 6th street bridge!

Saturday...Montrose Ride, 7:45 start, long version (58mi). This is the full distance for this ride, but this group starts 15 minutes ahead of the main group, and tends to be a slightly more tolerable pace for ex-fast guys. I guess our pace was pretty decent, however, because the 8:00 group never caught us. The first part of the ride is pretty flat and fast, and that wasn't an issue for me at all. The short climbs that highlight the second half had me clinging on to the dwindling group by very thin threads many times, but I managed to stay in contact, and took the last pull into the bottom of the final climb into Sierra Madre, and then rolled in at an easier tempo. This is the largest volume of high-intensity work than I've done in a very long time, and my legs felt it all day long. It was the kind of mileage and beat-down my body needed. https://www.strava.com/activities/9369932327

Sunday...Dirt therapy (20mi). MTB ride up to Brown Saddle, down through the Meadows, along the shaded Flint Canyon Trail between the houses of La Canada, a loop of the lower half of Cherry Canyon, and a return via FCT. Not getting started until almost 1:00 meant I got the brunt of the afternoon heat, and it was damn toasty on the climbs. I kept my effort level well constrained, stopped multiple times, and drank every bit of 2 large bottles. The air quality was terrible, and my lungs were hurting into the evening. Overall, it was a good weekend on the bike. https://www.strava.com/activities/9377525100

Coffee to Coffee ride, Beach was like a deserted island, hardly any cars, opposite tomorrow for the 4th. Marine layer was thick this AM, felt good like riding in AC. Sun didn't come out til the last 7 or 8 miles of the ride.

wasn’t it last 4th of july that you had that “encounter” with the jeep on the rose canyon bike path?

0500 start this morning with plans to head to Carbon Canyon with the Super Moon but instead I got June gloom and low visibility with fog hugging the road.
Went to my goto Puente-Whittier Hills ride instead. Good to see a lot of our comrades out on a holiday.
52 miles and 6.6K of climb.

made it up from san diego and linked up with fellow forumite Tycho Brahe to ride up from the sierra madre/gmr intersection to the shack.
lifts or bust was a bust...still...always inspirational to do gmr on the 4th of july with hundreds upon hundreds of cyclists on a closed road.

I slept in and missed the large group rides this morning so did solo adventure to Double Peaks Park in San Marcos. Not much traffic today inland. Happy 4th of July, glad to be here on the land of the free...
