Yes! just converted an old 87 Schwinn Sierra (the one with the beautiful green and yellow paint scheme) into a single speed masher for my kid going off to college. Turned out great. Wish I could post a picture but I'm a newbie and not allowed yet!

A lot of cool bikes on here. I have basically done the same thing, but might be a bit more radical on my Cogburn fat tire bike. At first I made an extension and just raised the bars up about 5 inches or so. But now I have just finished installing a set of apehangers on it, and I wanted the more crank forward position so I made a bracket and moved my seat back about 6 inches. I had it re-cabled at the bike shop and now it's much more comfortable. I am still playing with it a bit, adjusting the handlebars, and seat, and trying different seats that I have used in the past. I thought about even putting a banana seat on it, and I might yet, but maybe not.
However, I think in the future I would like to try a longer wheelbase cruiser bike, as I am setting a little farther back over the rear wheel then I would prefer, I think.

Can you post a photo of your bike? Very interested in how you set the seat back

Ok, I got my 10 post in, so here goes on my first picture. This bike started out as a fat tire bike, called the Cogburn which was sort of targeted at hunters at the time, but I think this company is out of business now. I hated the low mountain bike handlebars, and wanted a more uprlght riding position. I guess it's a work in progress.

Since those pictures were taken, I have moved the seat slightly forward, and raised it a little more. And I rolled the shifter for the rear derailleur up on top of the handlebar, because my thumb is injured and weak, and I can't downshift with it. Now, I don't have to use my thumb and it's much better for me. I live in pretty rough hilly country, right on top of a mountain, and once I get out on the road, I am either coasting downhill or working my guts out trying to pedal up hill. So, I am considering modifying it into an E-bike.

I prefer the more crank forward position of a cruiser, so I made a bracket to move the seat back a ways. But I may have taken it too far. And may end up moving the seat forward a little bit more from here, but I definitely like the position better then the stock location.

Was a mongoose

I love the handlebars. This bike is more comfortable to ride than my "comfort" bike. It's slightly less upright than that one. I have a lot of options with that stem.

Notice how I can mount my handheld gps and a light to the handlebars. They slide in and out, I don't put the light on unless I'm using it. I have some blinkies that stay on in the front and back if I'm out at dusk.

Those chopper bars are legit. Did you source them online or elsewhere?

Since this isn't really a zombie thread, I'll comment on an earlier post.

If I'm not mistaken, that frame is identical to a Nashbar Flashback aluminum cruiser-style MTB frame, only with black paint. I own two and I like them - one set up as a "touring" cruiser, the other as a "speedy" cruiser.

I run errands on mine.

The shape of the old handlebars tweaked my arthritic thumb so I put some swept back bars on it. I liked them so much I put them on my other bike. I would love to have nittos with no rise on that one but the price was right on the suntours.

I like this bike the best as far as comfort and position.
