Addiction 2022.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have been procrastinating on this, but I finally got around to changing the Reynolds Assault freehub body from 10s to 11s and put a new 11s cassette on. I have been riding the Psimet aluminum wheels on the new build of the Habanero, but now that the spring wet/windy season is mostly done, it's time to think about putting the deeper section carbon wheels on.

Speaking of wind and wet, they are calling for lots of thunderstorms tomorrow, so unless something changes the 100 mile French Creek Iron Tour is going to be a washout. Looks like Trainsnorter has a shot at keeping the KOM for the week.

Speaking of cassettes, it turns out I am even more of a cassette and chain hoarder than I thought I was. I have at least a half-dozen 10s cassettes that are NOT worn, along with about an equal number of unused 6701 10 speed chains. The cassettes are an equal mix of 105/Ultegra/Dura-Ace. I will keep them since the Roubaix and CX bike are still set up with 10 speed, but I think I have more than I need.

I only have one 11s chain and ZERO 11 speed cassettes on the pegboard though.

Dogs are dogs and do dog things for dog reasons. It's up to humans to make sure they know which dog things are acceptable, and which are not.

I have about a dozen freewheels. Why? Prolly twice that many sets of cantilever brakes. I think they either breed or spontaneously generate. Probably seven headsets, some pristine Saddles? Half a dozen. Bikes? 3, and three frame sets.
One of these years I will time my trip north to coincide with a bike swap meet and unload this stuff.

4 of us started riding a little early today because of the heat. On the second climb one friend was having trouble dropping the chain and the second time it got stuck between the crank and the frame and he couldn't unclip and fell over which bent his derailleur hanger or cage. After that it was ghost shifting and jumping and we couldn't get it to work so he turned back.

The rest of us went on to our snack break where I had a flat. Put my spare tube in and it went flat a few miles up the road. It leaked at the seam near the stem. It's the second tube I've had separate recently.
After that no issues except the heat. I drank 6 large bottles plus a 20oz soda and was 5 pounds light when I got home.

The good news is my breathing has been better lately and I haven't used the Albuterol in more than a week.

Ick. I had that level of chain drop/suck once so bad I had to get picked up by a shop and they had to PULL THE CRANK to fix it.

The chain came out pretty easy in this case but falling on the rear derailleur ruined his ride.
One time I was waaayy back in the mountains when a friend got his chain stuck bad. I had a mini tool with an 8mm Allen and was able to loosen the crank bolt with my foot. Somehow that was enough to get the chain out.

Even tossed around the idea of the LG QNED90, but no decisions anytime soon of course.

The theater would really be my fortress of solitude, not a theater. Probably the only place I'd be comfortable with an OLED. Xbox and movies when I need to escape.
There are west facing windows on the opposite wall, but glare has not been a big issue. If it is at certain times of the day, we just tilt the blinds.

Originally had the 65 in that room, but when we refurnished and got rid of an entertainment center, my wife said the 65 was too small for that wall. She didn’t have to sell me on a 77!

We have a cave/theater/media room upstairs that is windowless. It is one of the least used rooms in the house.

For me, it would be a panic (attack) room. It would sadly get a great deal of use, and very important.

I had a longish ride planned. And then didn't wake up until half an hour ago. Actually, I'm still not awake.
Beautiful weather though. By the time I finish the dog walk and eat something it will be too late. Alas.

My wife and daughter left to go stay with her parents this morning, but before they went in they did a test and it came back positive so they are on their way back now. I think I got it from them. They had a “cold” before I went to work, and they didn’t have any contact with me when I came home last night.

Went out after the rain and wandered about on the CX bike. It was so much more work than the road bike. I even skipped my favorite climb because I was concerned I would not have a low enough gear to handle the steep sections. I estimate the bike “cost” in speed to be roughly 15-20%. That’s a high cost, and I am pretty sure it’s all rolling resistance from knobby tires. Weight and other variables are about the same as road bike.
