quadriceps cramps due to the saddle too inclined?
Hello everyone in the last granfondo I did I had problems with quadripicites and vastus medialis after about 3/4 of the race. I could no longer push even downhill. Once the race is over, after 2 minutes of rest, everything is over so I think that this type of problem is due to the position? what do you think?
I am 176cm tall with an inseam of 82.3cm, and foot size 45.5 I pedal with a 73.5cm high saddle very advanced with an inclination of -5.6 ° and cleats all advanced. Bontrager for that type of saddle recommends an incline of -2 ° in your opinion the kind of problem I had what it could be due to:
- saddle too inclined at the bottom
- cleats too advanced
- saddle too advanced

Saddle too low. What type bike?
Though until I read your specs, I'd just assume you don't ride much and your quads just need to get use to the new amount of riding and fact you were probably pushing to keep up with others.
Or did you measure your saddle height to the BB? I feel that measuring saddle height to the pedal furthest away makes the most sense. Then crank length is not necessary to know.

Agreed, saddle probably too low. Try the heel-on-pedal method (google if you don't know it). Calculation says 75 cm. Why so much tilt? I've had to use up to -7° when fighting a really bad saddle sore, but it sure wasn't comfortable. I usually like ~1/8" tilt, whatever that is.
But also IME cramps are all about training status. If one has done enough intensity for enough duration, one just doesn't cramp anymore. My recipe is a 4-5 hour hilly ride once a week, done at intensity which leaves one hardly able to walk at the finish. About 4 months of that, after doing the usual endurance and interval work, seems to do the trick. Plus enough weekly endurance hours to balance that out.
