There are also disadvantages. Like if you run an 8T or 9T driver (22/8 or 25/9 ratio), you are more likely to smash the bearings, unless they are needle bearings.
There is more torque on the drive system =>more wear on parts, parts break easier

Your BB bearings don't last very long if you run micro gearing like that. I really want to make the change to 30-11 so I can save mine.

25-10? Wouldn't that make it easier than harder?

That gear is on my street cruiser. With the diameter of the tires 24.75 inches,It comes out to 61.875
My 30/10 on my second wave with the tire diameter of 20.94 inches. It comes out to 62.82
I like the ratio to be in the low sixties.
My cruiser race bike for the track has 25/11,So it winds up faster for the shorter bmx tracks.

What difference does the gearing make on the bottom bracket? If you run a 3-1 ratio, it requires the same energy to pedal and the same revolutions no matter what gearing you run. The bottom bracket will wear the same too.

It doesnt have any effect on your BB bearings. It just puts more stress on your chain and your driver bearings wont last as long running 9t or smaller. Ive had the same 10 tooth driver for like 3 season still runs like new just maintain your stuff.

lots of good reasons for the smaller sized gearing.

1. smaller rear gear means you don't need a huge, heavy drop out to cover and protect the chain.
2. smaller front gear means it's harder to hit and hang up on things.
3. smaller front means that when you do hit it, there is less leverage, making it harder to bend.
4. lighter and stronger.

Smaller gearing and threadless (1 1/8) headsets are two of the best things to happen to bmx bikes.
