Anyone using the Vittoria Randonneur Cross Tires for Bike Touring???
How are they as flat proof Tires and how do you like them for Bike Touring???
I see there $34.99 at biketiredirect
I am looking at them for bike Touring on my Surly LHT and as a Spare tire..
and I don't like Schwalbe Tires prices on my Fixed income

Sorry, I'm a Schwalbe Marathon Racer fan. Light is good, especially when it comes with adequate flat prevention.
$65 bucks/tire. I know....you're on a fixed income. So am I. Save for it.

I use Schwalbe Marathon Mondial's on my Surly LHT, a bit pricey but they seem to last forever. 12 K miles on them and counting .

I have an older 26" MTB that I keep at my parents' house in the USA. This summer, I ordered and had shipped over a set of 26x1.75 Vittoria Voyagers and some lightweight Vittoria tubes before my trip.
These are the wire-beaded version, which Vittoria indicates is 520 grams in that size.
I rode probably a hundred miles in those ten days, including in nasty industrial areas. I felt like they were a great compromise for me in all ways. I think I now tend to prefer tires whose tread 'edges' are a bit smoothed out, so that they can't catch and hold onto sharp rocks and glass and stuff. My city bike here in Sweden wears some 700c Schwalbe Spicer tires, which look similar (at lower volume) and have been flawless for me, too, over much longer distances. I'm actually contemplating replacing the aggressive-tread tires on my touring bike with, possibly, voyagers or voyager hypers after this experience.
I purchased my tires through the large big-box website with a sub-retailer whose reputation, I read just after purchasing, made me almost regret my purchase, but who sent the stuff about a week faster than they said they would. $23 each for the tires, but not the Hyper model the seller indicates (so 30 TPI vs. 120 for the Hyper).

While I like Vittoria Randonneurs, I found that the "Cross" version of the tire had excessive rolling resistance for touring.

How much weight are you carrying? 1.75 wide tires are going to be pretty heavy. I am using 1.6" now and I may switch to 1.25" for commuting later. Short of a lot of weight on board or really terrible roads, the 1.6" Marathon Supreme I'm currently using is about as heavy as I'd go.
