Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They're going to need a bigger piece of equipment if they want to tear down the rest of that bridge in this manner! Maybe they could go around to the other side, run some chain around the remainder of the span and pull it off of that pier.

Just got home after another lovely 4 day trip. Big plans tomorrow morning. Riding from house to the scalpers starting point to join two friends. One is super familiar with the back roads between hampton and yorktown. Plan is ride with them, and then they will drop me off in Yorktown so I can take the parkway back home. It’s a 30 mile ride to get to the starting point. Should be fun, little worried about the traffic getting there. Not sure if I should take 60 or 143. Both don’t have shoulders and both are kind of busy.

We got a little rain earlier today, so I might have to get out for a sunset mow session.

And I haven't mowed the southwest lawn in a few days, so I might have to mow it to two inches first, then take it down to 1.5"

Sorry, should have made it "Cycling question for those who actually ride on the roads".

You need to heed Abe's advice. When I was a cyclist I rode on the mean streets twice a week.

Is this a lawn or a putting green?

My cycling bee story is that about 6 years ago I was finishing a ride and a stinging insect (a yellow jacket wasp, but close enough to a bee) flew under my jersey and stung me a few times. This happens every few years, but this time I had a full body reaction. Ten minutes after the sting, my lips and tongue started to tingle, my entire body broke out in raised welts, and I had a feeling of impending doom. I got mrs datlas to take me to the ER and I got a shot of epinephrine which made me feel like my head was about to pop off, but did make the allergic reaction go away.

Anaphylaxis is not fun.

Sidewalks are for pedestrians.

Motorists like to chat about my e-bike while waiting for the light to change.

My ex told me my skin looked gray after breathing smoke all day at work.

For years I have had people tell me this is impossible, it's all in my head. Especially when they find out I used to smoke. It sucked working in an industry where workers smoked around me and it took a long time to convince my former employer that it was a real thing.

I think they're still around, but keep a very low profile. I don't see as many UPS trucks as I used to either. We have several good, national couriers but they don't seem to get the Amazon deliveries. Good idea on the FedMex. I'll pass it along if I get the opportunity. I don't tend to rub elbows with that class of people.

My worst was a wasp sting in the eye, in 1981,on my first TOSRV. That one took awhile to subside. I am no longer a mouth breather, so not much to report. And, these days we are still required to mask up when not at home. Out on the open road I keep my mouth under the mask anyway, so I can easily pull it up ai I pass through the villages. Allows me to also avoid the sunblock lip balm.
