I did get a new set of golf clubs that cost as much as a nice bike. I used to play a lot, and am jumping back into it now that the "yacht" is gone. More and more of my clients and referral network are playing so it seems like a good business move.

I took Mrs. Peel for last night's ride. I did my '40km TT' route. I wanted to see whether I could improve on the best time I'd managed (1:29:27), so I went hard, and managed 1:25:40. After the last climb, there's a flat section before the final downhill. When I hit the top section there was a guy on a newish Pinarello, not going really fast, not as fast as I was, anyway. I passed him and less than 5 seconds later he passes me, I guess having decided he wasn't gonna be shown up by a 63 year old guy on a 40 year old bike.
But he'd jumped from too close, so I had no problem spinning up to catch him. I didn't ride his wheel, but stayed at least 2 bike lengths behind and off to the side, but it was so windy and we were going about 25-30 mph, so even at that distance I probably had some benefit. With 100 yards to go I spun the 52x13 for all it was worth and flew by him. You might say I droped the hamer. After I passed the sign I use for demarcation, I sat up, let him pass and then did a U-turn to get back to the car. He didn't look or wave or acknowledge me in any way.
Anyway, it's probable he wasn't racing me, but the instantaneous response to my passing him the first time just made me want to show that 63 year old legs can go fast, too. And what the hell, it was fun.

Looks like I can get a new Synapse with Force e-tap for $100. I should jump on it.

No, the decision was made to use those funds plus some funds from the sale of a car to pay off the mortgage. Probably a wise financial move.

You do make golf sound like a sound investment, though.

Maybe (probably) she would fall for the Velo Vol charm and support us both with her commercial earnings.

This is why that series of Peloton ads had a very limited run - she receives it from her hubby for Christmas and says she's all excited but looks like "Maybe he's trying to tell me something?"
Or maybe she's worried her husband is an idiot because for what he paid for the Peloton he could have picked up direct drive Smart Trainer and a bike to go with it so she could use Erg Mode for training instead of a stupid knob to change the resistance?

We have been sucked in to a weather rain pattern since last Friday night. We're getting rains daily for a few hours and then the sun comes out for awhile. Now, the weather guy is saying we are looking at another 4-5 day soaking.
I don't want to mow tonight but as soon as it dries out, I've got to do it. For the record, it is one contiguous lawn except the two little strips next to the curb.

How my bike sees me especially on the next day when I miss a planned ride.
I overslept yesterday and missed my ride, this made me smile:

Which for some reason reminds me of the exchange from 'Pirates of the Caribbean':
Commodore: You must be the worst pirate I've ever heard of!
Jack Sparrow: But you HAVE heard of me!

Speaking of which, tough afternoon.
I didn't properly pre-hydrate, made worse by the fact that I had a buffet lunch.
Oof. I stopped for water three times--should be two, at the most.
Glad no one was around to see the drink of shame.
