Addiction 2021.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Even so, it’s not the same as a half mile bike ride, walking is weight bearing, after all, no mechanical assist.

I can't see 'jorts' without thinking 'Jarts'. I remember hearing that, when the point sticks in your skull, they make a 'squinch' sound that the survivors tend to remember.

It is kind of steep for a popular trail. But if you can't walk a mile without needing a snack, you've got problems.

If I hadn't thrown them out, I'd offer you the 40 year old original tires off the Lotus Classique, and told you not to worry about that bulge where the bead didn't seat next to the valve.

What if eating the snacks is the point of the hike?

There's not picnic tables, if that's what you're getting at. It's an observation tower.

That's a lot of concrete. There were a lot of cement trucks winding their way amongst all those trees.

No, but I did once spend the night space-A at the SAC Inn on the former Carswell AFB. We had to sneak the baby we were traveling with into the room because the management were afraid she might cry and keep the visiting pilots awake. She didn't cry and I remember free booze and other fun stuff courtesy of the taxpayers.

Pilots can stay up all night drinking free, but don't let a crying baby wake them.

58 miles today with fast guy and e-bike couple. Pace was fine and I even led part of it until the 7 miles up the canyon and the steep climb after that. Really, it was fine and they kept their speed in check until the last part when they gradually started speeding up. The curse of the e-bikes. They change the dynamics of the ride. I can't wear them down on the flats or expect them to tire after the climbs.
