Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So no Tuesday night TT. 3rd week in a row. I did alpe du zwift instead...well 2100ft of it anyways. My legs are cooked!
Got a short ride in before the rain. It was 90+F, but still.

Then it rained so hard you couldn't see down the road even with the windshield wipers on max-speed.

That really robs the old man of his last effective strategy.

All cycling activities were complete and equipment stowed, before the first drop of rain. I got soaked anyway, because I had to retrieve Benson from the groomer.

True. I still like them and like being with them but it's hard to describe the way I feel about the e-bikes. Saturday they did a climbing ride and I was invited but didn't go.
It's disappointing in a way.

Good people are good to ride with. The last hill or two on a long ride is usually the only time I can deliver a little punishment to the guys who’ve been rotisserieing my skinny old ass all day.

Aren't highways supposed to be designed so the water drains away from them?

No big deal.

We had an evening rain shower so it was nice and humid on the way home. I felt alive again wiping sweat out of my eye.

You would think so. But apparently one of the pump stations is broken.. and the interstate is below ground level..

I'll go one better. The amount of debris on the shoulders of Mi. Interstates is staggering. Car parts, garbage, construction debris. I think a large part of the problem is all of the trash plugging up the drainage grates and the mains. Then how much of this trash gets in to the pumps?
From what I can see we no longer believe in maintenance.

Gonna go for a hot and humid ride. By the end it will be 90F with “real feel” about 100.

Sorry Velo Vol but several bottles will be needed today. Plus a halo headband.

E-bikes have taken over some of my riding groups. I’ve quit going to a couple because of them.
