Bertin C37 Reynolds 531 Campagnolo - need more info

Hey guys, look at my today's finding. Someone put fenders to this frame and straight handlebar probably not knowing much about frame. I'm intrested in every information you can give me about this model, year, original parts etc. I would also want to know something about L.JUY simplex sticker - never heard of those.
There is nervex stamp on bottom bracket with numbers like : 59'3064'D22E38 or 59'3064'B22E38 or 59'3064'B22838 ( some letters and numbers are so similar, but one of those 3 is totally correct )
Dropouts are marked brev. campagnolo as on the pictures.

That is a nice older Bertin, probably from the early 1960s.

the Verot model 63 chainset is a helpful dating aid as it enjoyed but a brief production life of roughly 1963-1967

the L. in the L.JUY marking is for Lucien, first name of Monsieur Juy, father of Simplex brand products

the long markings on the NERVEX bottom bracket shell are technical specifications and not a serial

bertinjim shall be along shortly to give you far more and better information on the cycle

1960's Bertin C37

Very early Bertin ads from 1960's Ron Kitching catalogs. Note - they didn't show Campy dropouts on these frames. That could be do to using old printing plates for years. Printing catalogs was very expensive before the days of desk top publishing.

Photos of an original Bertin C37 frame from ~1963-64??? that I pulled off of the internet years ago. Note the # 62 on the NDS dropout is the frame size C-t-T - 62cm - not the year. Bertin made a lot of bikes/frames to order not to catalog specs that's why you see do many variations. Chrome plating was probably one of those options.

Terzot Your frame is probably a 1965-67 Bertin C37 model. It could have originally been equipped with Simplex, Campagnolo or even Huret derailleurs.

The French thought highly of Huret Alvit derailleurs and even used them on some top of the line bikes. They were the French idea of all metal derailleurs to compete against Campagnolo (as opposed to Simplex Delrin Plastic derailleurs - at least in their minds).

WORD OF CAUTION! That stem is awfully high. I recommend pulling the fork and checking the threads on the steerer. When a stem is expanded in the threaded area, it can cause the threads to bulge leading to a catastrophic failure! Also many bike manufacturers used cheap steerers sometimes made of seamed pipe with a sleeve brazed into the bottom. Peugeot and Motobecane were some of the biggest offenders but Raleigh did it too. Saved a few pennies and centimes!

Removing all of the extraneous merde-de-velo plus some elbow grease, cleaning and polishing, and voilà the frame will look a 1000 times better.

If you're planning on doing a restoration, you can probably get those olde French Reynolds decals from H. LLoyds in the UK.

Very nice for a pre-boom bike discovered in the wild!

Rust like that on the seat tube could indicate it's toast! Ferric Carcinoma...

My late 60's early 70's, 57cm Bertin C37. My legs have shrunk so it's on my list of bikes that I don't ride any more and it's going be "moving on". NO RUST...

I know there's some rust, but for sunday rides i think it won't change anything. We'll see . I'm considering also full renovation, but it would require a lot of time, which i recently don't have . Thanks all for answers!

bikemig You should see what Bertinjim has. Kind of like a shrine for the species.
