I stripped it for a repaint and found a crack in the downtube (where I cut it), so I decided to see what it looks like inside.

'17 Diamondback Podium E'Tape Disc. It was $2800 but I had a corporate discount and for one week all the Podiums went on sale and I bought it for $1200. Honestly it rides smoother than any steel bike I've ever had. You can flex the seat stays by hand.

Carbon bikes just don't have style. Well some do but like the above Diamondback above ^ - I'm sure its a great bike but it doesn't make me wet like a beautiful steel bike.

I understand this sentiment, I really do (otherwise I wouldn't own any steel bikes), but for me it's about performance. I'm not staring longingly at my bikes when I'm riding them.

For me it's just a gut feeling that God intended bicycle frames to have the top tube parallel to the pavement. Anything other than that I find unattractive. Which means I can share the same enthusiasm for early carbon fiber bikes as I do steel (and early aluminum, for that matter). It also explains why I've never gotten all that enthusiastic about mountain bikes, and what love I do have for them invariably comes from the first decade or so of their production.

picked it up this morning as is - for what I would consider an "amazing deal". I am a flat pedal guy for life, but yes the $1000 msrp crankset might deserve some better pedals.

Of course. Always something that needs to be done with a "new" used bike. Yeah, there's plenty of flat road pedals that would be better than those generic MTB pedals.

hose that Extreme Power is hot! Not sure how closely you follow Colnago but that frame would be mid 2000’s. They also made the Extreme C, I think lighter for climbing. For those of us vintage enthusiasts considering dabbling in CF, the Colnago lugged carbon line is nice in that there is a traceable lineage and they ride fantastic. Master - C40 - C50 - Extreme - EPS - C59 - C60 - C64.

And OK, this is my last one for this thread. My ALAN Carbon Cross with aluminum/carbon lugs and aluminum rear triangle. Fantastic racer but if I don’t drag myself out to race it at least once this season, it will probably go up on the block.
