That's the tension adjuster for Gran Sport shifters:

I tried it on my Gran Sport and there’s not enough threads left for a nut so I was a little confused on what it was for. I forgot all about the Valentino, thanks.

the basic design of these sets goes back to pre-Valentino times

where the shift lever body has integral studs to which everything mounts and friction tension is adjusted with a nut rather than a bolt

there are a variety of iterations which never got into any Campag catalogue

evidently they were offered at the OEM level only
