Merlin titanium help

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Merlin titanium help

Just picked up a Merlin titanium road bike , and have no idea what model it is or when it was made. Merlin was no help at all, Can’t find any database. Ultegra 11 speed, 1 1/8 head tube, and what looks like the serial number on the BB. Any Merlin experts care to chime in?

Merlin couldn't tell you even with the serial number?

Nobody here will be able to confidently say what model it is based on the info you list. I'm sure some will guess though.
Get to 10 posts then add some pics to the thread. That will help more than what you provided.

Your question is hard to answer as someone could have put new components on an old frame. Ultegra 6800 (11 speed) launched in 2014, the 1-1/8 headset reference on its own isn't terribly helpful as road bikes have commonly had those since at least the early 2000's. Pictures will likely get you a better answer. In any case, it sounds like a nice bike.

Merlin Metalworks has undergone many ownership changes in the last 20 years. I doubt that meticulous records were kept during all of these

Your best bet to find the info you’re looking for is to post pics and the serial number. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this forum..

That was common on a lot of Merlins. Tom Kellog of Spectum bicycles worked with Merlin to design the geos for Merlin. Also Merlin built the Spectrum frames to Tom's specifications.

It matters because there is no “the Merlin,” and an original Merlin, from the Helfrich, Augsberger, and Vandermark days, is a more interesting and important piece of cycling history than later iterations of the brand…to those with a mind for that kind of thing, anyway.

Why does it matter what model or year it is?
You seriously asked this on a bike forum that specializes in minutiae?
Keep up the good work bro

Was it Merlin Ti that had the funny press-fit proprietary BB? That's what I'd be checking out.

Everything else should be just a curiosity - and a lovely bike, can't go wrong with a Ti road bike.

I think that even by BF standards, this sets a low for signal to noise ratio.
Damn I just added to the noise

I think there’s more than a few Merlin lovers on this forum but you have been of little help. Pictures and the serial number would be a HUGE help.

You- 'Someone tell me what model Trek do I have. It has an incredibly common drivetrain and steerer size. Oh, and a serial number exists, but I won't say what it is.'

Everyone- 'Details are needed because what you provided doesn't narrow down the possibilities at all.'

You- 'A common phrase is on the bike.'

You- 'Looks like nobody here knows anything.'

Nah, I think the s/n ratio in the "Bell Ringing" thread is way worse.

That doesn't mean we should stop trying to top it though.
