Yeah, Sidi just doesn't work for me. Nothing that I can walk in to an LBS and try on works for me any more. I'll try Lake next, but I'll have to order them in and I just don't have the motivation at the moment.

Pro Tip - bunch of people on this here forum told me to spend a grand to get custom shoes. I balked at them. Knowing what I've put into shoes in just trying to find the right pair.. I wish I had a time machine to go back and go that route. Nothing beats comfortable feet - the initial gateway to happiness.

Red Shift Sports shock absorbing stem.. genius, bought it, won't fit on the Canyon steerer. I'm telling you Canyon advertises it as standard, and it is most definitely not.
Last time my dumb self gets German made anything - it all ends up proprietary or finicky or just plain expensive.
Salsa Cutthroat and or All City Space Horse and or some other drop bar tourer will probably be the solution to getting more upright and comfortable without going full Recumbent... and getting some 40's for tires on there for soaking up any kind of road debris.

Datlas is looking faSt, not fat. Good work. I've turned into a meatball from not riding. By my definition that means +5lbs probably but the double chin is literally dependent on those 5 lbs.

Ordering from Lake is painful. Their website lies to you about stock; I tried ordering at the end of last year, order went through, then they emailed and said "nope, out of stock". I asked about switching to the next higher level, which showed in stock on their website. That was also a lie. The shoes themselves are fine (paid too much from a reseller on Amazon), but the experience soured me. On the other hand, literally no one else makes wide tri shoes that I'm aware of. Sidi doesn't make Mega tri shoes.

Kit matching the bar tape? That's OCP if there ever was one.

Sidi works great for me, as long as I get them in narrow. Their regular is too wide for my skinny feet. Their narrow is perfect.

(1) It's not "nearby." 2+ hours from here.
(2) I wouldn't wait for it to cool off much. It's cool at the top even in the summer.
(3) You've got to be in pretty good shape to do it. I've thought about doing it again, but right now I'm probably border line as to whether or not I could do it.

I'll bring the diet Cheerwine.

Heavens no. The shovel will stay safely locked away at an undisclosed location in Northwest Metro Atlanta.

It's possible. I've never ridden around Athens, though. Chattanooga, Tellico Plains, and parts northward.

Do you know what the roads conditions are like? Think of all the tax money Tennessee will scam out of me. what's the sales tax up there now 15%? If I bought you a post-ride diet Cheerwine that would be enough tax revenue to build a couple schools. Prolly.
