Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not at all. Except when they do shuttle rides to sporting events.

Welcome to my semi annual: 'Does this thing look like this thing and should fit into this thing right here tho right?'

Is this the canyon steerer broken down fully? I'm asking this stupid question just so I know that I am not missing anything.

Canyon website says 1 and 1/8'' - Red Shift Stem says 1 and 1/8''. Help from Red Shift says wedge the stem open to get it onto the steerer. I've wedged the stem open so much as to bottom out the screw it came with and she still don't want to slip over it.

Either I'm a barrel of monkeys smoked sideways or this damn Canyon steerer and Canyon are a pack of liars.

That steerer clamp end looks awfully small to my eyes, though my ocular yardstick is not calibrated.

I'm thinking the Canyon is out of spec - there's no way they are doing huge production runs of this stem and not getting feedback that it's 'too small, doesn't fit, etc'. I'm pointing my blame finger at the two time world war instigators.

If both stems are 1-1/8”, then the new stem should work, too. You have verified fork steerer and both stems with calipers, right?

Can the bolts be removed before you try to get it on the steerer?

Also, I'd tend to trust Canyon's spec over Red Shift.
