Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's was often the case with new bikes just a handful of years ago, too, but clearance is starting to open up, even on race/aero frames. When I bought the Domane, it was with everyday riding in mind, and met my criteria of clearance for at least 30mm tires.

Ha. I bought some classic Tevas like that last year. In my defense, they were bought strictly for sailing lessons and beach days. Still haven't worn them this year, but I probably should break out sandals of some sort - I've got a mean sock tan line going.

I desperately need an hour or two of sleep.

Came back on a 5hr red eye and couldn't sleep. Landed at 7am in time for 2hrs of rush hour traffic.

I miss this...

Yeah I didn't even see them at first on my laptop; they're very similar in color to the concrete. And the one on camera-left is almost entirely obscured. Glad to not be worried about a widowmaker, though.

I don't even trust my racheting Jack stands. I have a big block of wood (thicker than me) as a backup.

Smart man. I would only trust solid objects as well. Ideally multiple.

@LesterOfPuppets

You know the story about the 1886 southern railroad gauge change? It's quite a feat I was unaware of. #Trains

My dad was a Pennsy man, back in the 40s and 50s (both pre-, and post-war). I'm sure he knew all this stuff, but I, of course, did not. Thanks, Dr. Science. I inherited a book of time tables, I think from the 40s.

So what are the cool kids wearing now? Please don't say flip flops.

I've got a cruise coming up and I must be cool.

I'm stuck in the mid-2000s so Reef flipflops for me. The really cool kids wear low top all-white sneakers with no socks.

Mentioned it to my supervisor. She told me she had said something to her about her spaghetti straps. Apparently, she felt warm. She's since covered up.

In other news, there is a big cell zeroing in on the city. I decided to work in town day. On foot without rain gear.

It’s so unusual to see the cells go straight North. Usually they go East. Sad!

There's two stands under there if you look closely, but I've been known to do stupider so I appreciate the warning.

If I can catch clearance and feel good enough to ride again at some point I may flat pedal it, throw a touring seat on and get back to the 30-40 miler events with the Tevas on. If I can keep a good pace dressed up and equipped like a dirty hippie, all the better.

I'm going to be uncomfortable if I ever have to go back into an office. Shirts are just uncomfortable; when I go out these days during the day it tends to be in a Lululemon singlet.
