City had their local Century Ride today. I've only been doing the 62 mile ride for the last few years. My son grabbed a camera at the last minute and got some video along the way. He didn't take time to set it up for sunny daytime video, so please excuse the quality.

Watch for Elvis on the left about 1:41!

Yup, it was a late start cause I got caught up in a program on the tube. Same thing happened today, got out at 3:42am and biked the same route as yesterday but this time no shutting off the computer for STRAVA ART. Exact same roads ridden with actual distance biked being 25.05 miles.

I planned a road ride today after a half marathon yesterday to loosen up my hips. But the Oklahoma wind was more than I wanted to deal with. So i took a spin on my old Hi-Ten favorite and visited our local brewery for an IPA because I don't have any bottle cages on this old bike. While it may not be everyone's ideal hydration option, it does at least replace carbs.

I set up a smart trainer and Zwift on Sunday. I'm amazed...and hurting a bit, those virtual hills are just what I needed.

In the Before Times, I used to regularly combine my commute with training, so I got used to doing workouts with my backpack. Since the pandemic, most of my training has been indoors, but with the change in daylight and me spending more days at the office, I wanted to get back into my "commutervals."

This is 8x4’ vo2max intervals with 4’ rest between intervals. Hard but doable. I have a section of trail near my house that’s perfect for anything under 5 minutes and it’s more or less on the way to work. So I did these with a backpack, continued on to the office, showered and then to my desk, just like old times.

I did ride today, and it put me over 10,000KM total since getting my bike in 2020. (I also shared that in the Clyde forum). Stopped for a couple photos, even.

Solo ride

At 61, I wonder how many more years I'll be able to do this.

Yesterday, 15 miles, sunny, 70 degrees, wind 5-10 mph, and I was riding into the wind faster on the last few miles going home than I rode with the wind going out.

I've been have a hell of a time this year, probably because my body does not like metoprolol. If it actually affects my BP. I'd really hate to see my BP without it. And it killed my energy. I asked my doc to switch to atenolol 3 weeks ago, and he gave me a 'scrip for a dose that was equivalent to the Toprol's dose. My BP dropped immediately by 10-20 points (systolic and diastolic), and so did my energy. I was dizzy every time I stood up. 4 days ago, I cut the atenolol in half. My BP may have risen a few points, but it's still within guidelines, and the dizziness is almost all gone. As mentioned, I had a good time on yesterday's ride.

Last Tuesday, I rode 12 miles and needed 8 hours + a night's sleep to recover. Yesterday I was showered, dressed, and doing other things in under 2 hours after getting home.

Man, I hope it wasn't a fluke!

Ron, where were those pictures taken? We actually went house hunting in Tucson years ago but didn’t pull the trigger. I’ve ridden Mt Lemmon to the top and also did the century in el Tour when my daughter lived there.

The first photo is a view from Windy Point, on Mt. Lemmon. The second shot is above Saddlebrooke, looking back towards Tucson.

A 50 miler to the in-laws on some new to me roads. Temperatures got up into the high 80’s but rehydrated afterwards at an Italian restaurant.

I'm signed up to do my first century in three weeks. But with my grandkids' activities, Spring half marathon training with the youth group, and Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday runs with one of my favorite runners, I haven't had the time to train well. Planned a solo 60 miler today and got 57 of it done. I had a late start due to thunderstorms in the area and lots of rain. Riding north into the wind was miserable as the wind was constant but riding south was awesome even uphill. I was encouraged though by getting over half of a century done in less than half the time the course will be open while riding solo and unsupported. I think I can do this.

65 miles before it got too warm. Dropped by one of our Country Clubs on the way back and talked to a fella I’ve played a lot of golf with. Field are maturing……fresh tar and gravel at the top of a hill on the route.

2 laps of 17 mile out & back on smooth paved trail. What do they call a flat ride like that? LSD?
late edit = Dig it!
River distraction:

With 54/44 + 13/26 gears, the big hills can be a real workout, or humbling.
