Front axle bearing question ?

I was planning on getting my bearings repacked this winter. Dispite how old my bike is the wheels seemed to spin freely. In the last couple days I have noticed a weird sensation I believe coming from my front wheel. It is not making any noise and doesn't appear to have any play in it. I can't help but wonder if it could be the axle bearing. What I"m feeling is hard to describe, almost like there is some play in the wheel. I raised the front up spun the wheel, everything seems normal. I'm going by the LBS tomorrow and see what they think. Anyone here have any ideas , thanks !

Is the tyre pumped up?

Is the wheel tight in the fork?

Are the bars/stem/fork sound?

Weird sensation doesn’t really help us. Is it a vibration or loose feeling or….? If the wheel is off the bike , turn the axle with the wheel stationary . If the bearings are in need of attention you will feel it. Spinning the wheel while it is still mounted on the bike is much harder to determine bearing health , unless there is play.

Weird Sensation...well that certainly indicates a problem...sigh
Does the axle move when you move the wheel perpendicular to its rotation direction? If so then it needs adjusting.

I was at the local bikeshop this morning, the owner said it would be a good idea to repack the bearings and the headset. He wasn't to concerned, said everything seemed to be in pretty good working order.

I know this sounds really preposterous, but hear me out: buy two $10 cone wrenches and overhaul it.
