2005 Bianchi Eros - not quite vintage, but a lovely steel framed commuter. This is my daily nice weather ride. The other is a '92 Bianchi Project-3 mountain bike that I've only had for about a year. I converted to an all weather commuter/dog walker/city cruiser. I'm really happy with that one too; it's a keeper.

I used my '94 red Trekking bike for years. Solid steel frame and love the Sachs/SRAM 3x7. Bought it new in 94 and it still rides like new. Occasionally I have also used the '88 Gazelle. 60cm frame, solid steel and really heavy. Built like a tank. Simple but reliable 3 speed. But end of last year I switched to a recumbent because a back problems. Riding a '99 BikeE in the moment. And of course this one has my beloved Sachs/SRAM 3x7 shifter as well.

Does a 1990 Trek 7000 count? I don't consider it vintage myself, just old. And only the frame is old, most of the parts are from 3-4 years ago.

How is the PX 10 with racks? Does it still maintain it's beautiful ride when fully loaded? I started a thread about adding racks to my PX-10:

I ride either my Gitane Course or Peugeot Premiere on dry days; for wet weather I've got either a 1980s BSA with full mudguards or a modern road bike.

1985 Schwinn High Sierra reporting in! Over 880 miles on this bike alone so far for 2018. It's such a smooth ride. I've got fairly modern stuff on it at the moment, including a great "megarange" 8 speed 11-34 cassette. It's got normal gear jumps between 1-7, and then 8 kicks it up from a 26 to a 34. It makes for a great bailout gear. The 24-36-46 chainrings get me everything from 18.2 to 107.7 gear inches. If I could somehow get hydraulic disc brakes on this ride, I probably would be able to get rid of 3-4 other bikes.

I recently acquired an 80's Panasonic Demonta Touring bike. It has flatbars and rapidfire shifters on it now which the previous owner installed (which are great for city riding/commuting) but I might restore it back to dropbars in the future.

Dad bought this Cilo Pacer new in 1971. Between the two of us, it’s been ridden pretty frequently for 47 years now. Most recently, this fixed setup has been my daily commuter for the last 10.

Before getting a road bike, I commuted for 2 years on a Gary Fisher mountain bike that I bought used. I've had it for over a decade now. Does that count as "vintage?"

Current commuter is a 1983 Ross Utopian, a svelte 27lbs with 32mm tires. As others noted, downtube shifters are not ideal for me when dodging traffic and considering brifters or barcons but like the vintage look and ready for fenders for those rainy / wet days. I have another vintage World Voyageur with a Shimano 6500 that I would sometimes put a rack on the back when it is not ready for a work travel trip.

I'm not into vintage bikes because I wanted to get into vintage bikes. I got into them by my bikes getting old.

This is my bad weather/comfort bike. Everything is original from '82, save for the saddle, fenders, chain, brake pads and suicide levers.
The fenders really made a huge difference for me (duh), and friction shifting is really quite enjoyable.

I switch between these two that I got for free, both were in various states of disrepair:
1977 Schwinn LeTour II - its been converted to a 2-speed by using a SS rear wheel (the original rear wheel was not salvageable), the RD as a tensioner, and switching between the two chainrings (52/39) for hills/flats. 700 x 32 tires (700 x 35 will fit, but just barely).
1992 Trek 8000 MTB. No FD (it was missing when I got it), so just the 7-speed RD operated with an aftermarket grip shift on it since the original thumb shifter was non-functional. 26 x 1.5 street tires. This is an urban utility bike, too.

And here's my BSA, out in the sun for once. It's had a bit of a clean and polish and been put away since the photo was taken, but there's rain forecast for tomorrow so it's been moved to the front of the garage.

well i commute almost exclusively on my bob jackson world tour which is nearly new. its kinda vintage feeling because of the quill stem and canti brakes, but i may seriously consider commuting on the new to me miyata 912. i got it running tonight and took a spin around a few blocks. the bike i awesome but i am really firmly convinced that i no longer want to ride something where i am not fairly upright. i will be digging out the technomic stem for sure!

Mid-range Japanese steel road bikes from the '70s and '80s are my preference. Inexpensive to acquire, sturdy and reliable, easy to maintain, good supply of parts from "donor" bikes and online discounters, and a nice feel to them. I say Japanese, but I love my '78 Motobecane that was made in France. It came with Japanese SunTour deraileurs. I first commuted on these types of bikes when they were the "newest", not "vintage".
