July 23 - Bob's Big Bike Show - Bob Freeman in Northbend, WA

Announcement made over on CR.

After 2 years off, his summer time ride and show is back July 23, 402 Merritt Ave NE North Bend WA 98045. If you lose the address, just go to North Bend and follow the bike geeks converging on his house.

Bob Freeman is in the running for the GOAT of vintage bicycle collectors. He's the kind of guy who can look at a stack of bikes in a hippie hostel and pick out the one with the wrong derailleur pulley from 10 yards away.

Bob telling @Spaghetti Legs his derailleur pulley is the wrong vintage

He has >100 vintage bikes. Not just a bunch of bikes that need work, these are all pristine, many are restorations, some with the perfect patina, all in rideable condition. The six riders on the Magical Mystery Tour of the PNW stopped by in 2019 and drooled.

Bob and @SquireBlack stare in amazement.

There'll be maybe another 100 vintage bikes that others bring to show off on Bob's expansive lawn.

small sample of what you'll see

And there is usually a pretty good ride the morning of this as well. Last time I went, I was late and a handful of us had our own ride too, great time, great place, bikes and folks.

Just seeing this, sounds like fun. I've barely been riding, but it might be fun to get out of the house/town for a few hours.

After the ride, Bob will read your innermost thoughts. No filter, and it can get a little embarrassing.

Should be great weather.

Very strongly encourage you to join in, Bob's an institution with a great setting, fantastic collection and there will be many other bikes you won't normally see.

Alright, it looks like logistics are falling into place (my wife's car got totalled and we've been sharing for 3 months now...) How early do I need to get up there to get out on a ride?

Just an FYI if anyone else was planning on taking HWY 18. Looks like it will be closed this saturday.

Ef!

This sucks you know what, already a 3 hour drive from PDX on a good day, no such thing up there, got jacked around last time.

So this has been a cluster before on a good day. Looks like maybe get off 18 at 169 or gamble on Issaquah/Hobart Rd. up to Issaquah, I90 back down to N Bend?

I was really hoping to go to this, but other life commitments are getting in the way. Somebody give the bikes an extra ogle for me.

I think you are best doing the Hobart-Issaquah to I-90, adding perhaps 20 minutes

Hopefully, there were some little ones last time I went up there and it really screwed things up for the traffic, can't imagine this won't be worse than that with a total closure. Guess we'll see.

I'm unfortunately not going to be able to make the trip after all. My bad hip has been acting up and there's no way I can drive or ride (or really stand). This after I'd started cleaning up the CNC to bring along...

If you're coming from the south, I would recommend avoiding hwy 18 all together. I-5 to 405 to I-90 will ad less than 20 minutes, and keep you away from an detour stop and go stuff.

I acutally had an ulterior motive, besides seeing bikes, people and getting in a ride somewhere new. I had this frame that I was hoping to talk gugie into adding to his queue. It was found at the local St Vinnie's yard more than a decade ago. No stampings anywhere and it looks like quite a bit of work went into the thinning of the lugs. Whatever it is, it looked worth storing in the garage rafters all this time.

Tx Roger, I considered that, was going to take 169 up through Renton and cut over to Issaquah but I know 18 can be a pita all the way, been going to SIR for 30+years and it is rarely a good time.
