Yeah, they are out of fashion as new bikes, but everywhere I go, I see a lot of them still in service.

I still see 26ers when I go mountain biking but lots of 27.5 and 29ers, too. What surprises me is when I see people on gravel bikes going fast in places which were only populated by mountain bikes. Most of the fire roads around here are good for rigid bikes but it's just a surprise how many there are and how fast they go.

Lots of gravel bikes going fast on fire roads, you say?

Kind of reminds me of the olden days, when we rode race bikes on the unpaved fire and logging roads, because that was the only style of bike we had. Riding uphill went pretty well, if the surface wasn't too sandy (or muddy).

What goes around...

and nowadays we seem to be replacing our mobile phones every 2 years or so, not always because we want to but because we have to since something stopped working with the device with no moving parts,

When I've ridden my Seven off road it feels like the wrong tool for the job. Of course, that's with 23s and a steep head angle. Some 38s at lower pressure would have helped, if they would fit.
Some of the bikes available now are beautiful. Here is my friend's Franco with 38s.

Maybe for some, but I've had my iPhone 8 since 2018 with no issues whatsoever.

and would you be keeping that iphone 8 for how many years? 5, 10 or 15? definitely not as long as we used to keep our rotary dial phones,

Cell phones are only peripherally telephones at all. Considering that the only thing they have in common is their ability to make and receive calls, any comparison is pretty pointless.

Some people replace their bicycles and cars every two years or so, for no other reason then to keep up with the latest trends and fashions.

Back when I was married my wife and I took turns buying new bikes, both mountain and road. It wasn't to keep up with anything, we just liked getting new bikes.
