Back in the summer of 1986, IIRC, I seriously considered an 18" (or 18.5") sized Ultra. Had they had a 16-incher, I might have sprung for one. Didn't know that it had just come out, but respected the Ritchey frames and reputation. Did a test-ride for an hour or so, all over the nearby dirt roads, up the hills and across the small town. Climbed like a mountain goat, was stable, fairly light, and easy to "flick" around. Nice bike. Missed a pre-owned example a handful of years ago, before prices began to really pop.

Yours is turning out really well. Heavily massaged and pampered, perhaps a bit "pimped" even, but it works. Nice job.
thanks for the kind words. I like your story too, growing up on the farm we had no money for bikes like this and to be honest I was really short until basically grade 12 and alway rode “girls” frame bike. I remember I needed a new bike and was excited to what I might get. My dads cousin was the town garbage man and I was the recipient of a women’s single speed that he’d found discarded. Rode the hell out of it lol until it folded when I ran it off a ramp I made. Now I’m getting a shot at owning some of the bikes that were unobtainable to me back then.

Sounds like how I grew up. What we didn't have, we made, or made do with something that worked. Great job on this bike. What a prize you have there! Bravo, sir!

Old decal location

You can see where the original decal had been. I didn’t realize at the time what had been there. Glad it’s fixed up.
